I'm toying with the idea of pulling the turbo out, and the OHV. Due to current unplanned circumstances in my life I no longer have a place to work on it, and babying a turbo motor I just don't have the time/money for anymore. Its my DD and I don't really feel like buying another car. Im considering going with a very lightly built N/A eco that will do what I need it to do. I had so much fun with the OHV and I dont want to give up on it but unplanned things arose that will make it really difficult to continue to work with.
If I end up going through with this Ill be looking for a home for the engine and the turbo kit.
-The head-
(i have a brand new 2nd cometic head gasket still in the box, as well as one currently in the engine)
Port & swirl polished
5 angle valve job
Stainless steel valves
Cromoly locks & retainers
Howel automotive pushrods
-The block-
JBP turbo camshaft
V-8 Spring swapped lifters
Rest is stock
-Turbo Stuff-
Garrett T3/T04B turbo (48 ar turbine, 70 ar compressor)
Tial 38mm Wastegate (with atmospheric dump tube)
HKS SSQV BOV
Turbo XS Intercooler, (I forget dimensions but if someone wants to know I can measure it)
2.5" charge pipes all around (not welded, couplers w/ T-bolts for the joints)
2.5" custom downpipe (magnaflow high flow cat and
Tullos Technology electronic boost controller
Golden eagle vacuum manifold
Stainless steel braided feed line
I think thats the majority of it.
I ran the car on 9 psi on this set up for 8k miles before a freak accident happened with my first block. The wastegate has a 9 psi spring in it so if you'd want to run less you'd have to put a smaller spring in. This was a hella fun project, I loved it. It was great to see that an OHV can have big ass balls
As far as what the set-up put out I dont know. I can only estimate, I never got it on a dyno. However I may get it dynoed before I pull it (if i do). I can tell you that before I was finished tuning it, it beat a stage 2 SRT-4 on the street that had a car length lead on while we were stopped. And it pulled inch by inch until it passed him at the top of 4th. It was running alot better/faster after I finished tuning it but I never raced it much.
Like I said this is not a sure thing, Im just toying with the idea due to my current situation and I think it would be best to no longer have it turbocharged. This isnt about me losing faith in it, because 1 bad thing happened. I still have OHV love. Its just where Im at in my life right now, Its not something that I have the time or place for anymore in regards to all aspects of having a turbocharged daily driver (thats not factory). I loved every minute of it and I dont regret doing it but sometimes its time to move on.
So If I go through with it would anyone be interested in taking this stuff off my hands? I have a bunch of various stock engine parts Id be willing to throw in as well..
NOOOOOOO!!!!!
But if you do....we need to have a chat about some things
wow Jess, that sucks! Hope it all works out for ya.
GLWS
Forgot to add: also has a log style turbo manifold and the block has the M98 (90-93 cavalier) oil pump.
Ok need an edit button!
Thank you Joey, I'm just trying to do the smartest thing given the situation.
It has a mangaflow high flow cat welded into the exhaust AS WELL as a Vibrant 12" resonator.
Also has Cobalt SS 36# injectors soldered onto the wiring harness. I can include that or just cut the injectors off if you already have the wiring harness.
Also if whomever potentially buys it is worried about tuning it, I will include the ECU with my tune uploaded on it and if you live close that shouldn't change anything as far as altitude levels manipulating things. Also you can contact me if something needs to be changed and I have access to the HPTuners that has that ECU registered and can fix something for you or w/e. Thats if everything OHV/Turbo thats on my car is bought by one person that way its an identical set up.
hm mayb depending ona price if itd work on my 99
Well PM me an offer and we can go from there
So does this mean you're going with an eco swap, or parting out this car and just looking for an eco cav?
Eco swap. Haven't decided if I'm going to keep it mostly stock or not. Its getting eagle rods, a stage 1 clutch and probably a fidanza flywheel (as I have access to them through a good friend). I may throw on a patriots stage 2 head and if i do that, why not grab some N/A pistons.

I just cant see myself being satisfied after driving this lil turbo beast around and going to a stock engine. I don't plan on beating on it, I just want it to get up and go if I need it and I think this will be a much more reliable set up for a fun lil DD when all said and done.
so if you dont mind me asking what the hell happened?
i had liked the fact you stuck with the crappy 2.2
I liked it too
If it must be known, I lost my job due to my boss having financial difficulties (new/small company - he hated to let me go but had too). Then Kavy blew a rod in a freak accident (not a big deal I don't give up that easy, but it happened at like 3% throttle cruising on the highway... which makes it a lil more known when it happens to ya that it can happen at any time with a project like this and even with taking all needed precautions... my car was running better than it ever has before this happened). Still not a big deal, I can work with that. But then my boyfriend and I split up and I live on my own. Due to living in an apartment I cant work on my car here. So we always worked on our cars at his parents, which even though I still have a good relationship with them, I just cant do that anymore. So really I have no where to @!#$ around with it, if need be. Oh yea, this all happened in a 4-6 week period of time
So I'm trying to be realistic (6 months ago there was nothing wrong with this project, as far as money/workspace/time/vehicles, etc) then unplanned things happen that make it not all that possible. This is NOW my only car, my DD, and I need to do something with it where I know it will get me where I need to be. And be a bit more of a normal car, and not JUST a toy.
I still have OHV love and maybe one day ill go at it again. I don't want to give up on it especially since I was very close to reaching my final goal with it... But its time to move on. I cant revolve my life around my car. Its just not a smart thing to do given the circumstances and keep a finicky lil turbocharged Cavalier
i'm sorry to hear that. best of luck with everything. it really does suck though.
i honestly had nothing to do with this...
..no really.
but you came to the right person with Qs jess
I'll do ya right
m45 ldp swap

$1400 for sc, $100+ for a decent used ld9. Not bad for mid-high 14's and reliable haha.

damn well thats unfortunate
best of luck, i am sure you will find work soon enough and get @!#$ straightened out
I'm letting PJ have his way with me
Thanks tho guys
How much for the wastegate?

Hey what kind of transmission do you have and what is the mileage on it. If you would be willing to part with it what would you be asking?
The proper way of using the word seen. It is not I seen it that would be I saw it. He has seen the car is the right way to use the word. English class is Cool. By the way thats my sig
M-1 Erma Jean - Its the Getrag F23 tranny with 57K on it currently. However I believe I had a taker on the tranny If I part it all out.
QBE - Its hard to say... At this point im taking offers on things.
JoeyDaBomb - Again, If everything is parted out separately ... Make me a reasonable offer and I will probably accept it.
These parts at this point only have 7k on them, they are all still like new. The BOV and the Wastegate were each 230-250 $ New (My boost controller which I may not part with was 500$) Turbo was 5 or 600$, IC was around 150-200$...
Also I have 3 more brand new M98 (90-93 cavy) oil pumps if anyone wants one... I got a good price on them and figured I could save some people some $$
Just so everyone knows thats potentially interested, this stuff is not up for grabs until I get to NJ to get the swap done and bring it back up here. Which will probably be atleast another month. I want to get this beast on a dyno before I tear it apart as well.
Also I listed my cat/resonator/injectors/boost controller and possibly the vac manifold for sale, and I think I may hang onto those. Everything else is fair game.
can you throw me a ball park?

Got the Kav running again, oh my its giving me doubts on swapping the engine out now. Maybe I will just pick up a beater cavy.... Sounds amazing and that cam throws in a nice touch for the exahaust sound *drools*. So yea still debating going through with this swap...
