I'm in need of some parts now I guess
Friday, December 01, 2006 9:17 PM
I am in need of at least one front fender (drivers side), unless it's a set of custom Z3's or something.
I need the drivers side door glass, b-pillar cover, power mirror, maybe more if after I look in the daylight.
I also need to know if anyone has a sunfire that has a good rear drivers side quarter that is on a junker, I need to cut it out and replace mine.

I know...the junk yard, but if anyone is selling here, I thought I'd start here.

Here's why I need the parts

And just a friendly warning...please be careful, I almost died tonight.

quarter doesn't need replaced, just pulled, maybe a little icing and you'll be on your way

I <3 DTP.

Anybody got a puller that welds the tabs on the panel for the slide hammer to grip? I guess it's off to Harbor Freight this weekend to look for tools LOL

I'll be hammering and pulling the quarter...over $1k for a new one. I am going to have to repaint the whole car after the reapirs, so insurance would have totaled the car due to it's age. I was thinking that it would need pulled when looking at it after my visit to the ER. My Dad really wants me to turn it into the insurance, but I would hate to have to buy my car back and then have to work on it again and get it inspected to be able to drive it again.

I REALLY like the F1 fenders. I just wish they came in steel, but quality FG should fit nicely.

The B-pillar covers are making me mad. I can't fing them ANYWHERE. The drivers side got almost ripped in half tonight, so I need a new one, but I've read that the dealer is my only source.

The mirror is on Ebay, but is most likely cheaper at the yard.

I am hoping that the glass is at the yard, and is cheap as well.

With paint and everything, I am guessing that about $3k or so would have been a decent estimate. I can get the paint done for about $1k +/- as long as I get everything prepped for the guy. this sucks right before Christmas, and makes tax time look smaller as well.

There goes the stroker this year, unless I can get ahead over the winter.

i honestly dont think u can pull that 1/4 out to look right.. it looks like it has some minor creases.. i guess if u have alot of time and alot of stingers i guess u could but id be looking to replace the whole thing..

Best bet is to go to junkyard for a quarter panel.. a junkyard around here only wanted 200-250 for the whole 1/4 panel and that was if they remove it for u. some do cheaper if u remove it..

hope everything works out and ur alright man.

omg dude im so glad your ok. listen man, im trying to think if theres anything of my fire you can use. not power mirrors. you could use the door...but idk if its in the best shape. but it was manual windows...idk if that can change over. i know its not smashed like that though. and the quarter is crunched so i think you might be able to pull it out, but if you dont want to the fire has decent 1/4s iirc.

Brian, I'm E-mailing you now, I'll send you my home number in the email. so it's $500 more? or $100 more? the meds got me confused (I've read it like 10 times so far and still can't work it out LOL)

Keith, you die, you die and you go to hell.

J/K bro, thanks for the offer though. Maybe I'll tow the car to your place so we can work on it in our t-shirts.

Yeh what brian is saying is u can take the whole car for $500.. but it sounds like u were going to get some things off him already for $400.. so he said just call it $500 for teh whole car, that means the parts u wanted plus the rest of the car for only $500.. thats a damn good deal..

Damn dude.

That poor car. It's had such a rough life here recently. I'd have probably given up by now... you're a trooper!

Course... both vehicles I own have magically caught fire on me. So, I guess i'm not far behind.

WoW dude. I'm sorry man. I got to do the same kinda work on my rear 1/4 too. That is why I'm going widebody, but mine was due to a lady not being able to drive and my car getting to hit a wall. Glad you are ok though. Take care man.

I'm so FN sore and stoned right now. I've had such a bad headache all day that I've had a short temper, I made my wife cry. I feel like a real ass right now. I am going to do something special for her tomorrow if I'm not too out of it. I think I'll take the kids out deer hunting and give her some time to relax in the tub.

The Fire will rise again...oh yes it will.

Brian, you are the man. whatever you need, I'm in your debt. You just call me and I'm there. If you need a place to crash, don't even hesitate to stop by. After today, you are always welcome in my home.

Brian is now family to me. I've never met him in person, but he's one of the most honorable people I've ever met. I'll always have a good word for him after today.

sorry to hear bout it man.

Hey Coop, shoot me a price using the stock color in base/clear. I'm planning on going with the hawaiian orchid (#84 stock color) for the upper part of the car, and dark polo green (#91 stock color) for the body kit. I figure about a quart or two for the green and a gallon for the purple.

I'll also need gloss black to re-do the roof of the car, or just try to remove the oxidation and bring out the shine again, it's pretty faded though.

The guy I asked to give me a quote "just in case" is trying to tell me that I can't replace the 1/4 on my own. He said I wouldn't be able to line it up right and it would look like crap unless he did it. I guess I'm going to have to prove him wrong, aren't I.

BTW...New sig to commemorate a new beginning.

whatever you do....don't replace that quarter...I'd have it professionally straightened, not as expensive as you might think...at least look into it!

yes it will likely have creases....which is why I said he might need a little icing to straighten it out perfect. blah to f/g fenders...keep your stockers!!!!

Re: I'm in need of some parts now I guess

I'll try to pull the 1/4 first, but it has some stretch in it where it was pressed into the shock mount or some brace underneath. My body man even said he would rather replace it than have to beat it back out, less work he said (of course he wants to do it so he can make some $$$).

My biggest problem is I have to do all the work, I can't afford to have it done, and my agent said it was totaled if the 1/4 was damaged. Something about it being so old that the work costs more than the book value of the car.

I think if I just replace it, it will be an easier fix (please explain to me if this wouldn't be true) for my father and I to do. I have all the tools to replace the panel, but none of the tools to straighten it out (well, hammers, dollies, and what not) I could get a slide hammer and drill a few holes in the panel to pull it I guess. I would really like a setup that welds the tabs on (much easier to grind them down than fill them in).

Brian is selling me the car, so I have the option to replace. I'll start removing the panel or pulling it as soon as we get a better look at the car in the shop.

You may be right DTP, it might not be as bad as it looks, and I hope you are right. We'll find out this weekend for sure.

Also, ANYONE who wants to lend a hand, if you have some experience in this, you are more than welcome to stop on by, just email me and I'll work on directions to the shop.

wish i was closer to you man, i'd definitely give you a hand. i totally know how it feels to have to rebuild a car on my own because it got wrecked. i see you're in ohio, so i hope for your sake you're working in a heated space. good luck with it. and i wanna see pics of the progress as you go along.

when i had my dent in my sunfire quarter....I took it to a collision school...he pulled the dent for me...free

Find one, or just go over to Pioneer CTC in shelby and see when he can get ya in, they do their work labor free. Plus Mr Brown is a WIZZ. Pulling one isn't as easy as stickin a plunger on it and yankin on it...you gotta know how to find the center of the dent (which isn't always obvious)

that guy wantin to replace your quarter....just wants money, and likely hates trying to straighten them. If you can't find someone fair, let me know. I'll hook you up with a dealership. This guy quoted me 350 to straighten mine out, and it's 100x worse then yours!!!

wow, thanks paul, I'll do that ASAP.

I'm still getting the car from brian though, just in case I need it. I got all the directions on the replacement from the GM site. I (as in myself) would be better at replacing it, since I have experience in replacing panels on my VW. I'm not so good at the pulling thing, it usually looks like the back of a fat womans legs when I'm all done.

I guess I get to go next weekend, since I have a butt-load of bills this week. but I'm heading to Brians place next weekend to pick it up for sure. Then I'll start the whole rebuild.

On top of everything else, I got transferred to another department that's on startup (getting ready to run production) so I can get them caught up and capable. so lots of weekends to work, but no time to cut and weld on the car. Although, I will be able to afford goodies for the car after a few weeks.

oh yeah, it's on and poppin. We are going to start the teardown next weekend. The 1/4 comes off the "new" car and I'm going to start taking the motor out to remove the parts I want. I might also use the gauge pod to fab up a new mount for some autometer (or VDO) gauges to compliment the new motor when it's all done.

That front fender wouldn't work though (bummer). It was rotted out on the hidden parts, all the mounting stuffs on the front where that little tear was. Oh well, I'm headed back to the yard anyway, they got me a manual mirror instead of the power one I asked for. I'm going to paint the hood after I fix that little sanding mark in it, and if the scoop buffs out, it will be left in carbon fiber.

I'm also going to mount the RK kit like the factory kit mounts (the side skirts). I really don't know why RK does't incorporate the stock mounting tabs, it's much easier to use and lasts longer than the tape.

Brian, I'll get you the other money ASAP. A deals a deal.
