Steve Emmons wrote:So if I want to do a swap just an eco than?not in your 1997 you don't... unless you want to rewire your whole car... and i mean back to the damn tail lights
Philly D wrote:Do a 2.4 if your car is a 97....not only is it a hassle. you gain nothing by swapping an eco over the 2.4 ... unless you are looking at beating the max horsepower record, you can build either motor to make the same power, the cost to build either are about the same, and the reliability of the motors are about the same (assuming they are maintained)
The eco swap into anything below a 2000 is such a hassle. You have to strip it down to a shell and put all the 2k up parts in it....wire harnesses, fuel tank, fuel lines, move the trans mounts. I did it and regretted it in the end.

So you want to swap a non-GM engine into a J-body.

The difference comes down the engine weight and the handling effects because of it. And whether or not you're even building the rest of the car far enough to even notice that.

Heres the sticky per the usual trend:
1.) Get parts car
2.) Rape parts car of everything.
3.) Rape Cavalier of all drivetrain parts etc.
4.) Place parts car parts into Cavalier. The trunk works best. It has the most space
5.) Brag
6.) Disappear and never complete

the 2.2 OHV transmission shares bellhousings with the 60degreeV6 motors (such as the 3100 or 3400)
the Ld9 Transmission (96-99) will bolt right in to your car, but only mates with Quad4 family engines
the LD9 Transmission (00-02) will not bolt in to your car without rewelding brackets, and only mates with Quad4 Family Engines
the Eco Transmission will not bolt in to your car without rewelding brackets, and only mates with Eco Family engines.
