Hi guys,
I have decided that I'm gonna go for the single cat-back that RKSport makes for my 2001 2.2L 4DR Cavalier. From what I've seen on the forums though, it will sound like bees in a can until I add a resonator, so here's what I need:
-Can someone tell me if it will still sound raspy even though I haven't changed my cat or header? (I do have a short ram intake though)
-Where online can I buy a resonator that will be a direct fit for the RKSport cat-back? (a link would be appreciated)
-Are there any other systems that will sound deep/throaty (the tone I'm aiming for) for around the same price and still give me around the same performance?
-How are those Monza kits on ebay?
From what I've seen lately, go with the direct kit from Magnaflow. Sure, it costs more, but you get more with it! That kit comes with a resonator and a longer muffler. The RK's is a copy of Magnaflow's but w/o a resonator and a shorter muffler
On to your questions.
1. It will probably sound raspy and thus having to add a resonator.
2.
Clicky
3. All exhaust sounds different per pending system.
4. Pacesetter is prone to rust and sounding horrible.
Adding on.
You could also have one custom bent, with your choice of muffler and resonator.
it will sound raspy when cold , and sound different when warm when inside the car you cant really hear how it sounds outside , unless you got the windows down
once you have a header and high flow cat the sound and buzz will increase alot
if your dead set on getting it , get a 18" resonator added at the same time you put the exhaust in
also, do I need to weld the new parts on or are U-Bolts enough to avoid an exhaust leak?
Get it welded. Those u-bolts they supply are worthless.
on my cavy 2 me it sounds quiet!! well thats after i had a really short fart can on before!! i have no resonator... but ive kinda got the pop pop thing goin on like it back fires lol! im sure a resonator will help that but i dont mind! and as for ur last question welding makes for a leak proof fit it done right and the u clamps will work 2 but there is no guarantee that it will completely seal.. but if u tighten it enought it should seal.

the eco tends to be a little quieter
and no header and high flow cat , will keep the system on the quieter side
but inside the car with the windows up even mine i quiet at cruise
windows down and its freakin loud
I'm real sorry guys, but now I found this one by Megan Racing:

I checked the forums and read the opinions but got nothign concrete. I promise this will be the only other one I ask questions about:
-Will this fit my 2001 4DR 2.2L Cavalier directly? (I've heard issues of some cat-back auctions saying it was specifically for the 2DR)
-Is that a resonator already mounted to the intermediate pipe that I see?
-How would this one sound and perform on my car compared to the one from RKSport?
Considering it's only 1 U-Bolt (from what I can tell) would it be safer to use it instead of welding?
Thanks again for all the help
99-05 all have the same catback , no matter the motor , just the muffler ip is different , and the muffler hanger
the guy that started the other megan thread , gorilla something or other , had the muffler bracket issue with his
gm used 2 styles ,and didnt have much rhime or reason for it
he was pretty happy with it , more so once he added a small resonator to it
if you like the cannon style muffler or dont mind them , then its not a bad system
thanks 97cavie24ls,
it's more about the sound and how much power it'll give my car then how it looks (though the look ain't too bad I guess). so can I assume that this DOESN'T have a resonator? if not then what is that piece on the intermediate pipe?
the megan doesnt have a resonator , which is pretty much standard for our cars , for some reason companies dont use them
which means we get to put our own in , and get to choose the length we want
the longer the more it will change the sound
I have the RK setup and I like it. You are not going to make any more noticable power with any of our catback choices really. I had the catback on by its self before and it sounded good just poped a bit. With the Header and High flow cat, I wouldn't want to hear it without my 25" resonator. I don't like the look of the megan exhaust and I'm sure its louder due the fart cannon style muffler. You really can't go wrong though, goodluck.

sweet..so when i get my exhaust and take it to the shop , theycan put on a resonator. !!..how much does that usually cost??
Hey guys. I had a run in with some new rims (ADR Victory 17") which took a good chunk of my cat-back money and I still need to wrap them with Falken Ziex 512's!! Hopefully by this week, I should get the RKSport system.
I appreciate all the help so far, but I still don't have an exact resonator (in terms of length and inlet/outlet size) that I know will fit and sound good. Can someone please provide a link to a glasspack or resonator that will:
-Fit the RKSport system
-Give a less raspy tone
-Be roughly long enough to have the tip of the muffler sticking out about an inch or two (basically enough to show a little metal and the magnaflow label on the tip) behind the bumper. (I don't know if the resonator size will affect this, so sorry if not)
Again, this is going into a 2001 Cav. 4DR 2200
Thanks once more for all the help!!
If you are going to buy a cat back system only to cut it up and add new peices, you might as well have an exhaust shop build the entire cat back. It would end up being a lot cheaper and only a bit more hassle. I could understand buying the catback pre made for an easy installation, but if you plan on adding to it, it doesn't really make sense to me.
lemur: I was originally thinking the same thing, but no one around here does mandrel AFAIK and for just another $30 - $40 I'm not gonna cry about going pre-made since I know what I'm getting
97cavie24ls: you've been so friggin much help through all this, I gotta give you a cookie
cookie -----> @
mind telling me the inlet/oulet sizes I need? or even better, linking me directly to a specific one with the right specs? :p
Thanks again guys
2 1/4" , either 3 1/2" outter or 4" outter
mmmmmm good cookie
i would link , but magnaflow doesnt sell the regualr resonators now
I understand, so I guess I'll have to go with the next best thing. A link to whatever that is would definitely be appreciated just the same
For the record though, does anyone have a model number for the magnaflow resonator that 97cavie24ls is referring to?
that 1 will work , might have to trim some of the pipe from the inlet and outlet , to keep it between the flanges
that is the way i was refering to the resonator , 18" case length
