Hey people,
I got my whole exhaust changed last week. New header and everything else.
It sounds good. I like it.
I'm wondering though... when I'm driving I'm hearing a sort of hissing noise. It's not really a hiss. It's more of a whooshing sound. It could easily just be the sound of exhaust rushing through the header, cat, and resonator. I'm just not sure.
What would a leak sound like? I just want to ensure everything is proper. There's no exhaust smell or anything and everything seems well.
If the noise is just the sound of rushing exhaust through the pipes then that's very cool. I just want to be sure.
i think thats what it could very well be since the exhaust is now free flowing... mine does it to.... but it also could very welll be a leak also...... i have wanted to know this myself and like you said if its just the exhaust flwo that woudl be sweet as hell hehe..
I just had my system installed and I'm experiencing the same thing. I'm not sure if its a leak, but I don't smell anything and everything seems to be bolted up tight. My guess is that that wooshing sound is the exhaust rushing through the new headers.

Usually exhaust leaks have a almost ticking sound. best way to found them is put the car in a garage and let it idle. You usually will hear a exhaust leak. From what you are saying does not sound like a exhaust leak to me.

Mine did the same thing for a while, but eventually faded once carbon began to build up inside the pipes.
john is right , most leaks are a ticking sound , kinda a pffft pfft pfft
did you have the stock manifold on it before yoy had the work done ?
headers due to being alot thiner than the cast manifold , do make different noises than the stock manifold
if there is a exhaust leak , after a few days there should be black carbon trails , that would be tell tale sign of a leak
Thanks guys! Yeah, I had the stock manifold on before. In fact, everything was stock. I replaced it all.
The sound definitely isn't a ticking or any sort of pulsing. It sounds like a smooth steady rush of air. Very cool actually. I've just never heard anything like it before in a car so I wanted to ensure it's normal.
I've never been in a car with a complete header and exhaust system before for anything but a short and spirited test run so I had no idea what they sound like when you drive normally.
The SC might have something to do with it too. Remember how Airtonics stock system sounded with the charger?
Nah, it's not the blower. When I'm giving it enough gas to get into boost, it's loud enough that I don't really hear this whooshing noise.
Well how does the car feel with a nice exhaust on it with the blower?

I had the sound happen to me some times i pretend i have turbo lol. I heard it today when i got opened her up.

yeah, i think this is the sound of the header, my friend had an header installed and we notice this sound, checked for leak and nothing.... then i got myself a header too and same sound.
I was curious, what brand header do u have? 4-1?
Yeah, it's the Pacesetter 4-1.
The whooshing noise is your Blow off valve

Hi and welcome to owner a header. Your hearing the exhaust as it passes thru the header tubes. Don't worry you'll get used to it.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
If you are not sure then re tighten the bolts for the header and on the ball joint and then see if that works. I know John HIggins when i did my header advised me to tighten my header after acouple days. With the heat and contracting on the new header the heat may make it a little loose so you may want to try that now that the header is nice a broken in it may need a little tightening.
