Well avid readers know that I ordered a built head for my sunfire with roller rockers, chromoly pushrods, cometic head gasket, etc. Anyways my main question is I have my motor pretty much torn apart, and I was thinking about doing a cam swap while I'm at it, seems sort of futile to put a built head on without putting a higher lift cam in there, but anyways how hard is it to change the cam if I already have the head off? Does anyone have a walk through or anything? I am pretty mechanically inclined but I never did much on a FWD car, can you guys help me out?
Thanks
well the probelm is, on the 2200 you have to pull the engine, unless, you might be able to go through the fender wall, but..im not sure, i pulled the engine, and the chilton says to pull it, but you might find a way. after that, its not too bad except the main cam bolt is like a 15/16th and theres a couple torx bolts, hmm what else, oh yeah nad remember to take the cam positioning sensor out.
Are the JBP stage 2 cams any good? I want to get a really high lift cam, I am running n/a all motor for now but am planning on doing 100+ shot of nitrous once I get the motor fully built. Anybody know where to get a really good cam that will give me some nice numbers and be priced reasonably?
Thanks
jbp stage 2 is good for pushrods, but just get them to make you a custom cam. tell them your mods, i doubt it costs anymore.
Call Crane Cams, whom I used, or Comp Cams or any other cam manufacturer and talk to them. They'll steer you in the right direction and get you a regrind to fit your application. You will need a usable cam core for them to grind. Cores are available from salvage yards cheap, if you dont want to use yours. Typically a regrind will cost about $130-$160,including shipping, far cheaper than buying a cam.
