I been looking at some Sunfire GT's. I was thinking about a 95 with a 2.3l and installing a H.O. 2.3l out of a beretta or a 2000-up with a 2.4l. Im not sure which one I want to buy. I heard the 2.4l spin rod-bearings. Which one is a better engine to turbo and get the best hp. I know you can get all the inters for the 2.4l but not sure about the 2.3l. Also I hear the 2.4l 5 speed trannys are junk and the 2.3l trannys out of the beretta's are strong. Then I seen that people were putting Getrag tannys on the 2.3l and 2.4l Also was wondering if you switch trannys do you have to switch clutches. So pretty much what im asking is which is the better engine to turbo and have the most Hp and which tranny will hold it?
Well the 2.3 in the 95s are hard to find and even if you do find one, they are hard to find in good condition.
I say if anything, get a newer car with the 2.4 so you have less issues to deal with as far as maintenance goes.
As far as what is better...it's all in the eye of the beholder. I mean really, no one can say that either motor is better under turbo or not. They are both good motors in general.
Depending on the power, trannies should hold up fine but might need to replace the clutch depending on how much power.
One again...it's too much gernalizing to give you an answer. Basically, it's your call on which motor you want and not to worry on how much power it can handle because it's about how you build the motor and turbo setup and also how you maintain/tune your setup.

i think he said he wanted a 95 so he could swap a HO in there and turbo it...he also was asking about internals for it ...so...if your asking between the HO engine and the twin cam for a turbo set up its gonna depend on what your gonna do to it.....i would go with the HO for the simple fact your gonna end up putting HO PARTS on your 2.4 anyway....intake..oil pump..stuff like that....not to mention the 95 sunfire GT your talking about is OBD1 ...as far as the tranny goes your right about the beretta fitting, and its stronger AND has a better gear ratio if its a 92+ if its earlier than a 92 dont put it in your car.....mount issues.....
not that im downing a 2.4 at all!! but if you have the choice to begin with i really think youll be happier with the end result( cost vs.power).....at least between those two engines..

is the 92+ tranny made for drag or highway. A lot of them tranny run 50mph at 2grand. My 97 sunfire se runs it at 1500rpm. Which I say is highway but there a delay in speed. Them car that run 50 at 2grand seem to get up and go. So do them 92+ trannys have get up and go or highway or both. Also when installing the H.O do you have to install a beretta ecu and do 95 sunfire gt have O2 sensors in the cat. Thanks

Well first thing, you can't really generalize 92+ trannies...not sure about the 2nd gens but I know the 3rd gens from 95-99 used Isuzu Trannies and 2000+ use Getrags.
Also, saying is a tranny MADE for drag or highway is kind of a broad question. Gearing is what makes a transmission cruise at a certain speed at a certain MPH. Gearing doesn't necessarily factor whether if it's a good track (drag) car or not.
