Nothing i am in the middle of putting a 20012.4 in my 98z.There are little things depending on what car it comes out of.Like mount but as far as the motor its the same.I should be firing my new motor tonight.

What about the knock sensor and EGR?

pre 2000 twin cam has 9.5:1 compression, 2000-2002 twin cam has 9.7:1 compression.

What about the knock sensor and EGR?[/quote

The knock sensor i dont need b/c i dont have to go through e-check,and the egr hooked up to my motor fine. The dealership is the one that said i dont need the knock sensor. He said the motor would run the same just the check engine light would be on.

To install your knock sensor in the motor, just drill out the hole slightly larger, and tap it with the correct tap. You NEED the knock sensor (otherwise you got NO timing retard w/ knock, probably will be running a preset max retard)

the 96-98 and 99+ are pretty much the same, the egr is swapable, knock sensor is swapable, exhaust manifolds are slightly different (one doesnt have the passage for the EGR), intake manifolds are pretty much the same, but I believe the 99+ have a lip in the t/b opening, and no port for the EGR tube.

All in all, it swaps in w/ no problems. We've put a '00/'01 2.4 in a '96 (GreenZ).

wrong compression ratio was changed starting 99. Also no EGR, exhaust manifold echanged, some 99 got the same injectors as the 2000, 99 also go the smaller starter

Bringing this back from the dead

I have a 96 GT... I am looking into a 2000 GA 2.4L... I know about the knock sensor re-tap, but am unsure about EGR, I am fine leaving it be, but can I just swap over my 96 intake and exhaust so I do have EGR?

Anything else I should know?

Thanks!

What you want to do is tap the knock sensor (like you said you know what to do), and then use all your stuff from your 96. Intake manifold, EGR, your 96 injectors, 96 exhaust manifold. Then you will be just like you were before the swap. It woudl looke like that 2000 motor came in your car. I have done this many times!!

Thanks... I will see what I can do, but it looks like the wreckers who are doing the swap for me, are going with a 96 motor anyway... even thought I told them the 2000+ are cheaper and doesnt take much to modify to work, oh well.

i'm swapping in a 2.4 into my 96 2.2ohv sunfire. and i will be putting it under boost, and my question is am i able to use the stock manifold to put the turbo on so i can keep my sensor, or do i have to get a turbo manifold, and just relocate the sensor after the turbo in the downpipe.

Re: ?....

You will definitely need a new manifold, as the turbo needs something to bolt up to...and I dont want anyone coming in and saying 'you could weld it to the stock manifold' as that is plain retarded...

ok, so am i able to use the 4-2-1 RKSport headers and still use a turbo, i read somewhere that you can't and that i have to use a regualr turbo manifold, but i am just double checking before i approach my car with any tool or part. thanks for the help.

not to sound like an @!#$ or anything but if your asking if your rksport header can bolt up a turbo, you shouldn't be going near the engine bay with any tools until your learn about f.i.

well you failed cuz u did sound like one, but anyways i'm asking cuz this is the first car i've ever worked on so i'm learning through asking around and searching different topics. i'm pretty sure u were new to cars at sometime too. It's people like you that detur people like me from cars completely because u think ur so smart and sofisticated that you can pimp a j-body. good for you twit, i'm only 18. Never had the money to deal with cars till now. Also i'm a visual and spatical learner, i learn by doing i can't just read something and understand it like i was born knowing the sh!t. I have to attempt it. thanks for the site

Re: ?....

lol im still learning too im 19. And im not being an ass but if you asked that type question then that means you should be starting with smaller mods before you step up to boost. Boosting a car takes alot of knowledge and know how. Im not trying to put you down if anything help you because I know if I had the money to boost two years ago I wouldn't have been a happy camper when My motor blew up or what not. and you have to read up when it comes to boost because just bolting up a turbo will result in blowing @!#$ up. You have to read so you can understand How to tune, what you watch for, the list is endless and the link I sent you is to help you stop being so sensitive and take some feedback its the only way to help you further yourself

Re: ?....

the thank you i said, was sincere lol, no sarcasm in it. it's helping me understand more. Like i said earlier, i've never stepped foot near a car with the "i wonder how it works" thought running through my head. The only thing i've actually done to my car so far is hook up my stereo myself, change my own spark plugs and wires, take apart my cluster and change the lighting/made my own needles to use that looked nicer, take apart my intake and make up some drawings for a mounting bracket for my master cylinder. so yeah i agree that going from that stuff to taking out my 2.2 and swapping in an LD9 and turboing it, is a large jump in knowledge. but hey, why not. if i didn't have money to burn i wouldn't have bought a project car

If you need help Im willing to help you to the best of my ability if you need any help. Just I didnt want to see a kid mess up their car because If I had anyone to help me like I am trying to help you a while ago I would'nt have messed up as much stuff as I did on my first J.

thanks for the offer, i will definetly need the help. i'm not goin to purchase the engine till my birthday in may, then it's just gonna chill in my garage while i build it up. swap it in around july august, then turbo somewhere after that.
