A friend of mine told me yesterday that you should change your spark plugs every year. Is this true? Also, what kind of plugs can I use with an 03 Eco engine? Or do I need to change them at all? I have about 80k miles on my Cav.
Also, I understand that spark plugs come in different "temperature" ranges. Could some one explain to me the differences in spark plugs & ratings?
they say the AC delco ones will last 100k miles. but whats the harm in changing them early? i dunno about changing them every year, never heard anytihng about that. the AC Delco ones they come with are supposed ot be the best for the eco. just go to pep boys/ autozone (whatever is around u) and just say u need plugs for a 03 cav. i'm not sure if they become pre gapped. but if they dont its easy to gap plugs. just pick up a gapper where u get ur plugs at and u can find the gap requirement right around the little sticker where it shows how the serpentine belt runs.

the ecotec plugs a i think are platium tipped. if you buy platium plugs , DO NOT GAP THEM. they are pregaped
even though some plugs are "pre gapped" still check the gap.... nothing in this world is perfect....
the frequency on which you change em should be determined by their condition.
this is where maintainence comes into play.... i honestly would check em, EVERY season change....
as a plug wears the gap between the elctrode gets wider.... cause as said, materials wear away on both the electrode and the ground electrode side....
you may need to regap you may not, but also you learn to "read" your plugs....
whats reading a plug some will ask?

you can learn alot about how your engine is running, via the way your sparkplugs look.
granted every cars books says it SHOULD last this or that long, nothing in life is perfect and things wear out depending on the quality or the abuse and use it takes...
also there is NO BEST plug ordeal.... theres really not a BEST in anything automotive...
certain plugs work better than others, some work great but last a short time, some work ok, but last forever... its all a give and take.
plugs with smaller electrodes take less energy to spark... its simple science you learned in grade school, the thinner the material that a conductor is made of, the less energy the conductor absorbs.... simple logic.
whats best? all depends on your goals... not just becuase someone or some company said so. as it stands platinum has been surpassed by iridium.
also you asked on temp ranges.... another link

i would have to agree with event, but after workin at the 'zone for the last 2 years, a straight up awnser, no, they do not have to be changed every yr, as event said, you should checked them pretty regular, just to make sure everythings on the good side, save your money and dont buy bosch platinums, seem to work great in some cars, but 85% of the boschs i sell come back and they get the ac plats anyways, so just do it right and get the ac plats in the first place. and unless you have a nice amount of engine work done, dont get the iridium unless you can get them at a really good price....in both my car, and my buds car, after about 10,000 on iridiums, car started runnin like crap, i put the plats back in, runs great again, bout 5000 mile now.
keep in mind, iridiums will prob need to be regapped being that they have a smaller electrode.
with an msd, the iridiums i run last roughly 50,000 miles.
It also depends on what you run, for example I spray so I have to get a whole different kind of plug and I also replace mine every other oil change. Why? cause they are cheap and the take a heavy toll from spray so I like to have the peace of mind.

True. So with 80k miles it's about time to check them huh? I'll have to hop to it. I'm running an almost stock engine now. The only mods I have are CAI & cat -back exhaust. I should go ahead & price some Delco's while I'm on the net....
Changed mine at 25,000 just for the hell of it. Also don't go less then platinum cause they wont last worth a crap.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
what is the denso part number i know there was 2 of them one was slightly colder i cant find the post from a few months ago
