I was looking into the valve springs and cams from Jbodyperformance.com (kinda pricy) so i was wondering if anyone ha done this or not, if so did you feel a difference and did it make your redline higher?

I have gotten the Stage 1 camshafts from JBP and upgraded valves springs from the Patriot Performance Package on my ECOTEC motor. With the cams, my power band is from 3000 RPMs and up and with the help of the upgraded valves springs, retainers etc. my top end and power band has moved upwards. I have an auto and in 1st and 2nd gear, I redline everytime fast. I have yet to take it to a dyno for a complete test but I will see where my powerband lies and get my fuel tuned even more properly for a better gain.

As far as the redline issue, you'll hit redline faster because you're rpms will move faster. You won't be able to rev higher than you're rev limiter will allow you unless you modify it to be disabled.

Here is a video of my car in 1st & 2nd gear (moves a bit faster now since I've been changing my fuel with my SAFC-2 but you'll get the picture.

What should you upgrade...well anything that will help with breathing modifications and your head flowing better. I see that already have a 62 MM TB and an intake upgrade, that's pretty much all you can really do right now as far as bolt ons go(unless you want to spend a grand on an Venom Intake manifold or dremel your stock one out).

When it comes to the head, retainers & springs upgrade is definitely good on top of having a ported and polished head. If you plan on going with boost soon, getting bigger valves will help you also (has to be specially machined to fit).

As far as cam gears go with the ECOTEC motor, cam gears is a waste of money. When I was looking to upgrade my cams, I also looked into getting cam gears and decided to do some research on the org. I soon found out no one really had them and wanted to know why. I searched and found an org member (can't remember who) who had a fully rebuilt all motor ECOTEC and asked him about his cam gears. He had it dyno tested and found that with his that stock cam timing setting was pretty much dead on...they changed and left one side by 1 degree (can't remember if it was the exhaust or intake side).

Overall, it would be a waste to pretty much get it and also a pain in the ass because you have to remove the valve cover every time you want to change the cam timing + most dynos go by 3 runs at a charge rate at $75-100 for every 3 runs.

By the way, I'll look around for places you can buy retainers and springs seperate for you.
