Alright, well the summers over and its decision time for me. This winter I'm going to be building up an engine... but I have to decide what one.
The car I have is a 2200, 2002 Cavalier with a five speed.
Now here's the deal, right now these are the mods I have.
Zex wet kit, with remote bottle opener.
Both upper and lower motor mounts
Header
Intake
DIS 2
Because of increasing gas prices, and because I'm going to college full time now... I can't afford two vehicles. So I've parked my Firebird, and its 6.7L engine... even though I spent a fortune building it up last year, I need something I can drive everyday but is still quick.
The plan is to build up whatever engine I pick, with forged and balanced internals, and hit it with a 125-150 shot of nitrous. That way I can have my 13 second ride and still get good gas mileage and cheap insurance.
Now, what I need to know from people who have done an ECO swap or know anything about it, is if its worth it? I can get a 2200 for cheap, build it up for about the same price as an ECO and have the car only out of commission for a few days.
With an ECO i'd have to get the wiring harness, and new upper mount, and new transmission, new header, and maybe other stuff that I haven't thought of?
Is it worth the extra 30 or so HP? Remember this is a juiced car.. and I'll be building it up as one. So what do you guys think, stick with the 2200 or go ECO? Thd difference between the two is going to be close to double in price.. since I need the transmission and about three times longer to swap? I only have a few days to pick an engine... so I need to get crackin.
What would you guys do?
search and you shall recieve information. there are plenty of writeups. But, basically... you need motor, tranny, mounts, harness, PCM... blah blah blah...
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
Yah I've done a search of what I need... but I'm not sure if its worth it. That's why I'm looking for feedback from peeps who have done it. I really don't know if it's worth all that trouble for 30 horses....
Honestly... I'd just stick with an LD9.

Yah, that is an option, higher displacement means I can run more juice... plus it makes a good 10 hp more then the ECO. But... that swap requires just as much work as an ECO.
It's an option I haven't thought of though, I'mma look into it.
I enjoy my eco. Well worth the swap from thte 2.2 ohv w/3sp.

Well first let me say this. You could run a factory ecotec with a turbo set and pull easy 13's. no building of a motor either. I'm sure with the right set-up a factory ecotec will run 13's on juice as well, no building. I know a 2.4 can run 13's on juice with no building. If you do the swap yourself you are just looking at parts, which is going to be about 1k. To build your 2200 you are going to spend more than that. I do know where you can get a used 2200 needing a rebuild. I say yes the LD(, or the Ecotec swap is worth it. It will be a easy swap on your car.
There's no way I could have an engine out and not build it up... So if I got the ECO forged rods would be going in without a doubt. I really think the 2200 might be the way to go for me though. I just don't know, the more I read the more it seems like once I break into the 12's things start breaking fast....
If 13's are all I can do and still be reliable then I think I'mma jus go with the 2200...
are there websites that offer a brandnew eco and everything that is needed to swap from a 2.2 ohv also how is the eco compared to the 2.4
