Help with rev limiter.

Not sure if this belongs here or not, sorry if it doesn't. I have been going to the track for a couple of weeks now and I noticed that my car will sometimes hit the rev limiter right before the finish line and sometimes it will not. When it doesn't I can see that the rpm are past 6300. Now I do have an Msd set up but not sure if there is something I can change to help with this.

shift sooner, its not like your trapping 108MPH with your basic bolt ons.

true....

msd is overridden by the stock ecu... so whichever one has the lowest setting, thats the one that will occur....usually stock.

also go to a dyno shop, and get a dyno of your powerband, it will pretty much help you in finding your shift points.

I'm guessing that your hitting the rev limiter in 3rd right? If so I would recomend shifting before the line. Granted I have only been to the track once (at the Bash) but my car was actually faster when I would shift to fourth cause I would get more pull around 4-5K (in 4th) than I would a 6+K (in 3rd)...

That's right EnviouZ, I should have made that clear. So there is nothing that I can do with my setup except to shift to 4th?

unless you plan on changing or altering gearing.

Yes. Like EnviouZ for example, his power band ended around 5k or so, so him going up another 1000+ RPM was just a waste because he isn't making any power after that, so shifting would put him right back into his powerband again.

When you start doing engine modifications, for example headwork, you might notice your powerband shifts upwards into higher RPMs, at those times shifting at an higher RPM would be more useful because your still making power.

Always remember, High RPMs doesn't always mean more power. Most people compare their cars to how Honda motors are where they can rev up to 8000 RPMs or so but they have to for a reason and their motors are designed to rev high because that's where their power band is. I can't remember which motor it is...I believe the old Prelude motors...but it's peak HP rating is at 5600 RPM but revs up to 7000 RPMs, there would be no point to rev up to 7000 RPMs when your done making more power.

Understand what I'm saying?
