waking up the nieghbors!
Sunday, August 21, 2005 7:30 AM
Well I just read a post about someone that doesn't want to be "that kid with the muffler"
LOL I work night shift and I leave around midnight. I have neighbors saying that every night they are roused out of bed by my car! I put a magnaflow high flow cat and I am 2.25 from the header back now and it is kinda loud for a 4 cylinder OHV.

I ordered the JEGS glasspack 24"

will this quiet my car enough to quiet my neighbors as well?

oh and another quick question---- has anyone else replaced just the muffler on the Pacesetter monza catback? It rattles like a bit<h and it is kinda annoying! should I be able to throw a magnaflow rear on there until I get a better exhaust next spring?

What size is your catback, is it 2.25 and compression bent? If so no point in replacing it. Put in the resonator and go to a muffler shop and have them weld in a support on the muffler, bolt it in to your rear bumper. Have them put in another support if you still have issues with it rattling. I have no issues with rattles and I just have the 1 stock catback support as well as the mufler bolted to the bumper. The resonator will quiet it down enough as long as you don't get on it you should be able to go in stealth mode (keep it under 3000 rpm) and slip out of your neighborhood until you get to the highway, then is CRACK it open time,
Thats what I have to do, but I did it out of respect for my neighbors to begin with.

Are you using a muffler? If not, put one on.

mark:

of course I have a muffler!... I have the pacesetter full cat back...it just rattles a bit

blackEco:

I plan on getting the resonator welded in (just like your setup) I was asking if I could replace the pacesetter muffler with a better one (leaving the pacesetter 2.25 inch pipe...that is not the part that is rattling.) and there are no issues with the hangers

next spring I am not cheaping out on exhaust this time ...maybe a Borla or custom mandrel bent

Well as long as that pacesetter piping is not crush bent there no point in replacing it because anything else would fucnction the exact same. If your getting boost then you have a reason to replace it. I would just order a new muffler if you dont like the one you have, and put in a resonator if thats what you want. See if you can find a borla muffler or magnaflow. You can get a nice magnaflow off ebay for around 110 shipped.

no plans for boost.... maybe nitrous down the road. but I am not sinking $3,000 + for a turbo kit into a car I got for $5,500

right now I just want to quiet down the exhaust then start the suspension.

Putting the resonator will help you alot by quieting it down and deepening the sound. Hopefully this will not piss your neighbors off.

By the way, I work nights as well and I have no resonator...I say screw my neighbors because I live on a main street...you hear all kinds of motorcycles and Hondas and trucks go down my street all the time...doubt they would bitch about my car.

I hope so. the ones that are complaining are the elderly ones near my girlfriend's place. it is kind of a rural area and I am the only modified J in the whole town.

I ordered my reonator the other day and hope to have it welded in by friday. (24")

got the glass-pack welded on today...sounds a little deeper and WAY less snappy to me..but the true test will be when I leave for work lol

also finally got around to putting my tranny mounts in today...I am impressed with the result. way more than I would have expected

and to top it off I will soon be lowered on agx / pro-kit...it all depends on the UPS man now...I can not wait!
next mod will definitely be the RSM lightened pulley...anyone want to comment on their results of this mod? feel a difference?
busy day.....

slightly quicker revs... nothing really to rave about.

it says better acceleration too.... does it help with power loss from running accesories?
basically...is it worth all the work to install it?

When you have faster reving, you have better acceleration...

The RSM pulley won't effect the accesories because it's the stock size.

so is it worth it on the 2200?

well, sit down and think........is that what you want?

whats worth it is simply relative to you.....

is it worth it for me to run out and install 35 swappers on my cavalier because some guy in the country has done it before???

no....cause going through mud is not something i want.

but is it worth it to him...obviously, cause he wants a larger vehicle to go through mud.

you have to figure out is it worth it to you.... we already told you what it does.
