i was thinking. i dont have emission testing here. i already dont have a converter. im runing 2.5 from the downpipe back with a borla muffler.
would it be worth it to get rid of the exhaust piping, and put the muffler at the end of the header and have it dump out under the car. would it help alot? to get rid of the 2.5 piping and all the bends. it would pretty much be a open down pipe with just a muffler to keep it quiet.
I would assume it should, there's less bends, less restrictions which I would think gives some extra power. Not 100% sure.
I would recommend a qucktime performance cable or electically operated dump setup instead. Just weld it in where the cat would normally be that way you can close it to keep the noise levels down when you're not racing. Or you can get the ATP Turbo VES like i have, which is a boost activated dump. Mine works great but qtp is about the same price and seals better from what i've heard.

Dumping all that raw exhaust right under you may not help your lungs, but you would feel some improvement in the engines performance.

Thats Him Officer The WICKED One.

i dont have a cat. its pretty much strait piped, but still has a muffler and piping.. only thing im thinking about doing is getting rid of all the piping and just running the muffler off the down pipe. having a lil big of piping to dump it out the side of the car instead of right under me.
run a big long resonator like a header muffler and then a turndown. have a flex pipe from your turbo to turbo muffler, some hangers built, and a turndown. a turbo quiets your exhaust down so much, plus a resonator, it would sound not too far off stock while giving you low end torque for boost.

best to have this in the boost fourm
the fumes from your exahsut will make you get noxious , plus the exhaust will be louder
the turbo will spool up a bit faster , but the sound will kinda drive you nutson a daliy bassis
its best to use a exhaust cut out , for track use

Just playin,
i say as long as the noise isnt going to bug you, which on a turbo car, the noise isnt that bad, dump that right infront of the rear tire

if you are going to dump it in front of the rear tire then why not just run it all the way back? if you are doing to dump then run open downpipe or to a turndown.

electric cut out is expensive.. this is gonna give me pretty much the same results, except ill have a muffler.. theres no emissions here so im not worried about that or it being a lil louder. im just curious if it would help performence. specially when i up the boost.

well if you aren't worried about emissions, just run your downpipe, flex pipe to a header muffler with a custom hangers, and a turndown.

turn down? just where the exhaust faces down instead of strait back? my only problem is how im going to mount the muffler right there at the end of the down pipe.
is there a "race muffler" thats a someone of a strait/small design? like summit or anything? i dont care if the noise goes up, just as long as its not a strait open header obnixous loud. and it gains on top end.
i am running the exact setup you are talking about. Cabin noise is a bit on the loud side. Exhaust fumes you don't smell. I have a 2 1/2" downpipe and then a 3" borla XR1 muffler on the end of it with a dump. Go to my car domain page and you can see the muffler and dump i am using. Should be on page 3. It sounds pretty good IMO @ WOT and idle expecially with a open dump tube.

what are you using to hold the muffler up? or is it just welded onto the down pipe? without hangers? did u move the heat shield up? is there anything above that muffler to help with heat or is it not an issue? where did u pick the borla XR1 muffler up at and how much?
btw, is that the gm manifold or did u make that?? how do u plan on fitting that on?
I am running a 3 inch downpipe with no cat nor muffler. The exhaust dumps just about under the shifter. The car sounds pretty good at idle, and gets loud at WOT.

Here is a video of my car at the track. I am guessing that your's will sound about the same at WOT.

wow.. that sounds good for a strait open header.
btw, your car is impressive. made props for the 2200

Nothing for now since it really doesn't weight much. but this winter i plan on finding a way to secure it. didn't have to move the heat shield up or anything. I got the muffler and dump from jegs. The muffler part # is 157-40085 and cost $117 and the dump part # is 555-30642 and cost $18. Hope that helps
As for the manifold i am making that myself. All that is shown has since been scraped and i am completely remaking it. I figured i would rather spend $90+ dollars to make it myself than buy the gm one or spend $700+ for the hahn one when/if it comes out

correction, open downpipe. if it were open header, the car would not be making that insane spooling noise (lovin it lol). open downpipe means the turbocharger is not venting exhaust through any more tail pipe, just straight out of the exhaust housing.
