New Exhaust setup, with pics (no 56k)
Saturday, August 20, 2005 1:27 PM
Had the following installed at Extreme Performance earlier this week;

Weapon-R 4-2-1 Header (Apparently a real bitch to install)
Magnaflow High-Flow cat
Magnaflow 5" x 8" Oval Camaro/Firebird Aluminized Steel Universal Muffler link
2 Rolled-Round Angle Cut - Single Wall T-304 Stainless Steel Tip link

Joining it all together is some aluminized 2.25 compression bent pipe.

The exhaust itself is relatively quiet until I get on it and it really opens up. It has kinda a nice low grumbling sound, but the header is a little raspy. I'll give it a month before I make any concrete decisions about putting in a resonator.

...and before I get flamed for the dual exhaust, just to clarify, it's just one muffler with a dual outlet

Daddy likes! What I'm going to do when I get around to getting an exhaust. Sounds pretty good as well! I'd add a resonator though.

it sounds pretty bassy in person, even when it hits that 'raspy' note..

its borderline, Im not sure if it needs one or not, cause its not like any exhaust note I've ever heard. (at least in its raspy range)

I like those two tips, might go for this but Don't you lose performance because of all the bends ?

15.891 @ 88 mph stock, still getting @!#$ty launches...

Did the header turn that color after it got hot? Where did you relocate your computer, Do you have any underbody shots?
Header looks good in the engine compartment. Headers can be a biotch to get in, until you ve done it once then its much easier. Ill spend half the day downloading your vid and give you some props once my 56k is finished bending me over

Wow, thanks for all the compliments guys! I am really loving the car right now. I'll try to answer the questions the best I can. Steve already handled the price question, so here we go...

The pics that you see are probably a reference pic. Click here for what it really looks like. The part Number for the header is 953-112-104. I know that A-Plus carries them, and the price is about $300. I actually picked the header up off a friend here in Winnipeg, we had a deal with other parts so I really don't know how much I paid for it lol.

Tredici wrote:jw how did the tip fit... if you have two 2.5 outlets?

Well I do know that the shop installed 2.25 piping everywhere, even out of the outlets so the pipe going to the tips is in fact 2.25. They flare the 2.25 and end weld it over top the outlet pipe.

DanteMustDie wrote:I like those two tips, might go for this but Don't you lose performance because of all the bends ?

Good question. The short answer is, "I don't know." There aren't actually that many bends though. Most times the Camaro-style muffler goes perpendicular with the car, in that case you would have one 90 bend in each of the outlet pipes. In my case, they actually mounted the muffler in the stock location, so one outlet is straight out, while the other (passenger side) is a bit of a U shape. Hope that helps. It was mounted this way to avoid road scrape if I ever go lower. Also, I like the idea of not being able to see the muffle, just the tips. I like the look a bit better this way.

hahahah I love that line about 56k... lol

Yes the header changed colors within minutes of starting up the car. I kinda like the color though. No under body shots, but I do have a full engine bay shot so you can see the PCM. I did that when I put in the STB just for something to do, but I am glad I did as it also makes room for the header. Here ya go.....

While I was waiting for your video to download I went outside and painted my front calipers and changed the spark plugs.
Sounds like its got a good low tone to it resonator should knock out most of that raspiness.

But I do thnk you need a resonator. To mellow it out and kill off some of the rasp to it.
