Did some searching, but can't find the size of the pipes for the Thermal Exhaust. I'm assuming 2 1/4. Thanks in advance.

Yes, it's 2 1/4". I believe there is one company that offers 2 1/2", but it's not Thermal or other big name brand companies.

I know IPerformance has a 2.5" exhaust and also OBX is 2.5" I believe.

There is really no difference. If the piping made by the shop is perfectly 2 1/4" all the way through then your good. Just pick out a muffler that you like and a resonator if you choose to and your set.

It's really up to you though, there is no "right" way, just your own preference. I will say it's possible you will save money depending on how much the shop charges you to make the piping and install it. If you do choose to do it custom, make sure you get either mandrel bends or compression bends.

oddly enough, my OBX 4-2-1 header came with a 2.5" b pipe, which I wasn't expecting...

Make sure you check on availability of the Thermal catback. I ordered one through Gravana and was informed by Jim that Thermal is probably dropping all j-body support. I ended up switching my order to a magnaflow catback after giving thermal a month to make up their minds. I would've went borla, but it's only 2" in diameter, and borla said it would be 6 to 8 weeks before it was produced. If I knew of a shop around here that did mandrel bends, I would've went local. Best of luck on your purchase, though.

A more accurate observation has never been typed. These should be the starting points before any serious performance modification. What's the point of making a serious performer if you can't control it's power?

Odd.....I want one because a buddy of mine just put one on his, and it's the most beautful catback I've ever heard. Great note at startup and idle.

I'll see what Jim says as well.

If you find out different, please tell me. I'd much rather have a thermal catback. I might have to give thermal a call myself.

I just got off the phone with Thermal. They no longer produce a cat-back for our platform. It was discontinued with about 40 other items. Sorry, guys. I wanted one as well.
