ok guys i just got my pace setter 4into1 header from a guy on here and i have a question. ok when i install this thing will it hurt my car if i had to drive it to a exhaust shop to get the pipe welded to my car if its open header? if it will how can i connect it temporary so i can get it welded? if it wont hurt the car i'd like to drive it open header.. also would you recomend any locktite on any of the bolts nuts etc? just let me know asap... thanks.
it wont hurt at all...
but to keep attention, police attention, or from annoying your neighbors... simply use a pipe clamp and clamp it to the best of your ability.
for the nuts, i;d reccomend locking nuts...not the nylon ones, but the ones that are ovaled near the end...
nylon bolts will melt out the nylon over time.
pretty much what event said
if possible get a business card or take your phone book with you with a exhaust shop circled , if you drive it open
that way if you do happen to get pulled over it makes it alot easier for the cop to believe that you are taking it to get it fixed
Does the Pacesetter not bolt to the rest of the OEM exhaust? Or are you getting aftermarket exhaust now? Sorry... I haven't looked at the Pacesetter header.
I drove mine with just the header, downpipe and cat (high flow cat), and it was fine. It was VERY loud though (the noise shook the interior)
the factory cat on almost all of our
j's is welded to the down pipe , so you have to cut and clamp or weld

I did the same thing when i drove to the exhaust shop with an open header. It is a smart idea. You aren't going to believe the looks you get. Hopefully you get the chance to drive past some ricer in a civic or something....I got lucky and was next to some punk in an eclipse who thought he was cool....I think he crapped himself after i revved my engine at him.

or he "snickered" at you for having a busted exhaust
thats cool i am getting it installed and welded saturday... i just have to drive about 15 miles or so to the shop... glad i can run it open thats going to be funny... lol... thanks guys you all helped me alot... you guys rock..
another thing its ok to reuse the stock bolts and nuts or what ever to connect it ot he head right.... i know i need a new gasket i am picking it up firday but do i need anythign else?
if you do reuse your stock bolts... just periodically check and make sure they stay tight. exhaust bolts like to rattle themselves loose from time to time and you get exhaust leaks that way.
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
cool thanks man... i picked up a new gasket from the saturn dealer today so i am replacing that also... i also go tthe torque specs today for the bolts and am renting a wrench... thaks for the help guys...

if only there were more like you, or atleast the same work ethic....
ok got a VERY VERY Dumb question... i jsut realized dad has a tq wrench that is inch pounds and it goes all the way to 750 inch pounds... can i use this one... we figured that 13 feet in inches is 156 inches.. do you think this will work or just go rent one for foot pounds?
the stock gasket woulda been fine to use
but either way , and the stock manifold is held on with studs and nuts , and so you know sometimes a stud will come out with the nut so dont be freaked out , just put it back like you would a bolt , and youll be fine
if you can do the conversion cool... if not a torque wrench for foot pounds are usually less than 25$ if need be.
your fine with the inch/lb wrench. I dont think there is much room to use a torque wrench back there but if you can, power to you. I just used the german torque wrench and never had a leak.
cool man thanks for the info.. and again thanks for the awsome deal... i cant wait to drive it tomorrow open header BWHAHAA....
well i got it installed and everything.... its awsome i love it.. the ONLY thing i dont like is the flex joint....
hey 97cavie24ls(JDM cav sedan™) since you work for pace setter.. . on the joint for the header should i tighten the bolts till the springs fully compress or not.. right now i have them snug so that the springs are not compressed at all and that joint has a slight leak to it...
if you got another flex pipe installed, you can cinch it all the way down
damn i wish i did... lol..... oh well guess i'll have to live with the noise till i can get a flex joint put on it...

thanks for the help event...
new question... is it normal for the car to be running hella rich? after the header install you can rev it up and some black smoke will come from the exhaust! is this normal? do i need to take the - cable off the battery for a while to reset the computer.. on a side note i disconnected the computer all together to move it during the header install so i dont think i need to reset the computer so to speak.... so is the smoke normal for a while or is it a for ever thing??? thanks...
I just had my full exhaust put on, Pacesetter 4-1, Magnaflow hi-flow cat, 26" resonator, and Magnaflow muffler, and no smoke here. Sounds pretty sweet. I'll try to post a vid. today.
Oh yeah, and About running rich, I don't know about that, but I also put my nology hotwires in the next day, and after those 2 mods, I get incredible gas mileage now, I've got almost 300 miles on a little more than 1/2 a tank @ 87 octane. Before, It was about 190ish at 1/2 a tank.
