The reason this is in the Performance section is because I want a performance exhaust, one that I can go racing with and hopefully will add a few extra horses. So, I have a few questions:
YES! I searched and didn't find anything.
I have a 2.4 cav ls convertible. CAI and Shift Plus upgrades, plus a few extra goodies.
What size exhaust should I go for? What are different sizes good for? Should I go with dual or single exhaust? Also, should I get a full or cat-back for racing? Should I upgrade my cat?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Sam
Ban low-performance cars, not high-performance ones.
2.25 mendrel bend with a borla muffler
"Silver 2001 Cavalier z24 5 speed 2 door sunroof and power everything "
AEM Short Ram Intake
B&M Short Throw Shifter
yes i have a borla turbo series muffler, 2" in/out its great i prollie got 5-7hp outta it, but am upgrading to 2.25 pipes, cat, and getting ceramic headers. if you want to race you need to get new everything, the stock system is too limiting. u may lose some low end power in the lower rpms with the better exhaust, but will get good gains in the higher rpms with a new setup

Ricer ELIMINATOR!
Thanks guys! Ummmm...besides Borla, what is a good company? I want to have a lot of info when I go to buy a new setup. Also What different bends are there, and what is the best? I know compression and mandrel, and I think CNC. Any others?

I went with Vibrant for my 2200. They are a great company. Everytime I e-mailed them, I got a response back in a few hours. Plus i'm very pleased with the cat back system. When it comes in, it has a mirror polish to it. Great looking and sounding exhaust. (at least it sounds good on the 2200) Every engine is different.
I would talk to them. They will help you out as much as possible.
New sig in the works
I have a 2.25" custom bent catback with an HKS hi-power muffler. It sounds good. Now I'm not exactly sure how it's going to turn out after I get new exhaust work done in a few days. But my car is so low that I'm constantly scraping my exhaust around here. So not only do I have an open test pipe (going away day after tomorrow for a carsound highflow cat) but my catback is junked. I'm going to talk to my exhaust shop when I drop the car off on Thursday and see if they can do a super JDM drift style upward angled bend at the muffler, so instead of coming straight out, the pipe bends it up at an angle... just because i think that looks awesome and I've never seen it on a jbody before.
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
LOL
you are Da MAN event

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
I wanted recommendations that I couldn't find on the search, I read the FAQ and saw some companies, but I wanted people to respond who actually HAVE something and to get a feedback, good or bad....THAT I couldn't find anywhere else, just a random "I have...blah blah and I love the sound!! Yippie!!"
Plus I just seem to come across all cat-back. Anyone have full exhaust? I got some replies on this post about different companies and my own research on stuff that isnt in faq....just so you know. I don't want "basic info" because I can read it anywhere, I want experience, which is why I asked the questions.

thats how i have the exhaust setup on my alero, angled up and to the left (from the back of the car) and it does look pretty cool

i'll be doing it the same way when i do the 3" exhaust for the turbo.

If you would have scrolled through the first page, im sure you would have found a relevant link of some sort, searching isnt always needed, sometimes its right there in front of you.
Yet another day to tack on to the run of someone asking what would sound/perform best

like said, those two links i posted, has tons of peoples experience.
this questions IS asked frequently every month. people GIVE their experiences.
you simply didnt take any time to read.
also you say you dont want basic info? but you are asking basic questions. RE_READ YOUR POST AT THE TOP....
-the size of your exhaust?......basic info: larger sizes have an effect same as smaller sizes
-"what are different sizes good for?" : thats basic information. if you asked that and dont know, then you should read the link located at the end of my first post. you;re obviously new, and you definately didnt take the time to read that ANYWHERE.....
"single or dual exhaust?" : dual for what? obviously dual is for show, its not needed nor gives any advantage. you have one header, you dont need two exits..... rookie question. basic info.
"should you get a full catback for racing?" thats like asking, should you get performance shoe laces for running a race? or should you get the full shoe?
so far everything you asked isnt really asking for experience, its asking basic questions which you obviously dont know about.
"should you upgrade your cat?" : once again basic information, which you claim you dont need, but you DO.....
EVERYTHING YOU JUST ASKED IS ANSWERED IN THE LINKS I JUST POSTED...
its peoples post, and their reccomendations, also given with BASIC INFO for those that are just starting to learn how exhausts work.
just an FYI, this whole entire forum, is a giant EXPERIENCE READING SECTION. its the same questions asked over and over again, answered over and over again, with experience from other people.
you either didnt search, or didnt bother to read. usually those who start out "i searched and didnt find anything" refrained from doing either of those two.
And Event usually ends up giveing the same answer! Just as he has here!
I have header back 2.25 piping, eliminated cat, with magnaflow mufflers. It sounds good but loud, and i deffinantly can feel a difference with no restrictons...

2004 Turbo cavalier 11PSI and blown!
If you had suggestions, you could have just IMed me damnit LOL

Go with custom piping from your local exhaust shop and a street series muffler from Magnaflow...........there mufflers can't be matched on sound and quality in my opinion.
2.50" ss304 pipes and cherry-bomb glasspacks!!
ss304 is for show, and unneccessary for performance. Aluminized steel will in all likelyhood outlast your ownership of the car.

Put a cat back on the car. It does more than filter noise. Seriously. If you want your low end torque back, a quieter sound, and to be able to pass inspection, put a high flow cat back on.

low end torque back? man when i yanked my cat i noticed an INCREASE in takeoff power, i can power brake now where before all i could do was chirp.
plus i dont have that rusted kiln under me.
what are you talking about spotabee?

yeah, low end torque BACK... read up on how exhauasts work on n/a cars.... chances are with the age of your car, your cat already had damage. not surprising you gained low end back, prob would gain more with a cat.
makes sense but i still dont like 'em.
