Well my Engine 97 2.4l started to knock is about to give up, thats what they tell me. so i was thinking of puting a fresh ecotec in it.. is there a kit to install it ? or will it just slide in ? whats is needed ? can some one point me to the right direction. Thanks . Knocking but it still runs Strong .. no smonke ...or anything
Well you need a alot, truley a donor car (ecotec) to swap motor, tranny, wiring (inside and out). Depending on what you want to do with your car, or how long you want to keep it, might be better off putting a newer 2.4 in.

I wouldn't get rid of the old one because engines will knock for a while before they will give. My friends engine has been knocking for over 75,000 miles and its still going strong. You just have to live with the sound. Too much work to replace an engine if the old one still goes.
^^^^^^^depends on what it is thats knocking. If its a rod bearing, it wont take long for it to lock up or throw it through the block. Its best to just find a low mile 2.4. If you want to can even build it up a bit before putting it in. Or you can take out your old one and fix and build it up.

yup its knocking . sounds like one of the cylinders... when i open the hood and accelerate a little you can hear ta ta ta ta ya know... how much is it to rebuild the 2.4 ? estimate . thanks alot
Sounds like rod bearing. Cost to rebuild depends on the shop so you'd have to ask around your area. I went through the same scenario (twice
) and it was cheaper to get a used 2.4 and drop it in. Call around to junk yards and find some prices. For my engine w/ 50k and the install it was 1200.

Actually Find a Jasper dealer, They sell Re-Manufactored engines in the 2.4, They guarntee thier engines for 3 years or 75k miles. Install and everything is around 3400. With guarntees that makes a good deal. Just a thought.
