How MUCH vibration from engine mounts? :-) - Performance Forum

I know that I will get some extra vibration at idle if I put these on, but how much? And is it only at idle?
On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being "I think I notice a slight change to the smoothness of my car" and 10 being "Holy Crap! I'm shaking out of my seat and wish I had never done this!" what would it rate?
I really want the performance boost that this mod gives (from what I've heard) but I really like the fact that my car still has a smooth, quiet ride and doesn't embarrass me when I have a passenger.
I'll probably do it no matter what, but I figured you guys could tell me what to expect.
Thanks!

I put mine on about 3 weeks ago and the only time its really bad is at idle especially with the A/C on. Other than that...its not really too bad. You can rev the engine as hard as you want and it doesn't hardly budge. In my situation, I have to live with the vibes because the engine rocking back and forth was putting my intake into the bottom of my hood, even after trimming it down.
In my case it is probably like a 3-4 on your scale. I know some people had a break-in period with their mounts, where the vibrations lessened after a while. You learn to live with it though and if you will be adding more parts, this will help to keep them from rattling around and possibly breaking/loosening.
on my 98z24 5 speed I had alot of vibrations at first but after a week it was ok and I just got used to it.

Yes officer I knew the speed limit was 50
I think the heading says engine mounts...! LOL
I was going to ask a similar question...
I just installed my mounts a day ago (engine mounts that is), and I notice they vibrate a lot more when the AC is turned on... Is this what everyone else has experienced.

Sorry - its an 03 Cav with 2.2 Ecotec / automatic tranny.
I know an auto is NOT the way to win races, but I enjoy the cruise control and the luxury of it. I also sit in stop and go traffic a lot and can't stand the constant shifting.
I'm not planning on doing much racing anyway but I do enjoy a nice boost when the mood strikes...

i just had my engine and tranny mounts on youll get vibrations for the first 500 miles at startup cause their beaking in. it gets better as time goes on its not as bad as it was but still noticable when inside the car witht he doors shut
Hmm...sounds like something I can deal with, especially since it will go away a little as I get used to it.
My intake hits in a couple places too - really annoying.
OK, you guys have convinced me I think. I'm gonna order the lower one this week.
Do I need that insert they sell for like 15 bucks?

So the tranny mounts are also a good idea?

Steve,
I have pretyt much the same setup eco/auto/air I get vibes with the upper/lower mounts that range from about 500-1k rpms as i accel, when cruising you dont notice it. Its annoying sometimes if you are runnin the air and idle, it shakes and the dash shakes you can see it... but they are well worth it. If the passenger doesnt like it tell them they can always walk.
No inserts needed. The bottom one takes a little convincing to getin there, but not bad with a rubber mallet and some soap

Ecos dont use the inserts, It's a complete mount. I think its a little over 100 bucks. The lower is the same as all other cavaliers.
i dontt hink they have tranny mounts for an auto yet.
and the vibes realyl depend on the car. some have it bad. some dont

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!

an automatic tranny can be just as fast on the street as a manual. infact in some cases it can be faster, especially in drags. throw a B&M shift kit on it and you will chirp the tires in every gear.
not wanting to build up a car JUST because of a tranny is really dumb. and even if you dont like it down the road, you can always swap

.
I ordered my Shift plus locally and I should have it by Friday. I can't wait to try it.

I just installed the lower mount on my eco about a week ago. Easy install. and the vibes aren't as bad as some people say. My friend said he could hardly tell when I took him for a ride. But you can tell if your in like fifth gear, at a really low RPM, and giving it a little gas. like going up a slight hill at about 35 or even 40 in 5th will make the car shake alot but just keep it in 4th and it's smooth sailing.
And BTW CaliforniaCavalier I don't know about ALL cars, but atleast with all cavaliers and sunfires... the manual will always have the advantage assuming the driver can drive it correctly. The auto's lose a little more power to the wheels.
And no the tires won't chirp in EVERY gear. maybe from 1st-2nd and POSSIBLY (but doubtful) 2nd-3rd.

^^ Once you get your upper mount in, then you will notice the vibrations more. The stock upper has a lot more give to it than the lower.
the only vibration that I really notice is in the steering wheel. It's like a hand massager. On a scale of 1 to 10 ( 10 being highest) I would say mine is about 3.
Go out and look at your engine at idle. That's
about how much more vibration is going to be transfered to the rest of the car after the mounts are installed.
