Maybe the ECOTEC cause you can find one for less miles than most 2.4s but it would be more expensive. Also, ECOTECs are supported more by GM so I would take that as a plus.

he's right. The 2.4 has a lot of history behind it but that's about all it has. GM is pushing the eco a lot more and we'll be seeing a 2.4 eco in a few months.

I guess it all depends on what you wanna tune and what you can afford.

I'm going with the Eco myself. here are my reasons.

* lighter than the 2.4 because of of the aluminum block and head.
* about the same power
*it's not that GM is pushing it, it that there are going to be more and more after-market parts for it. I really don't think there will be very many new performance parts coming out for the 2.4.

Don't get me wrong, the 2.4 is a good motor with good potential, i think of the 2.3-2.4 as the first generation, and the Eco being the next generation. it uses allot of the ideas that came about with the first, and improved on them. you can find the Eco on ebay all the time, and you can also scour www.car-part.com to get a good price on one. it's a VIN F when you look for it.

good luck with whatever you decide.

depends on how easy you want the swap to be, how expensive, etc etc. personally i'd say build the @!#$ out of an ld9 but an eco is always an option.
