Pacesetters Header question
Wednesday, June 15, 2005 7:30 AM
when my father installed my pace setter headers he had to modify it a little and has a small leak. I need to get it welded near the catalyc.
I notice sometimes when I am at traffice light my whole entire exhaust system rattles. I can hear it., is that common? Just sorta curious if anyone else had any probs with theirs. Oh to mention, my car is a 2002 2.2 ohv sunfire.

Mine does the same thing, makes it worse when you get the motor mounts. I think I still might have a leak.

def sounds like a heat sheild , best way to find out put the car on jack stands peak under and bend it back if its rubbing on a pipe

yeah its installed right, my dad is a mechanic and he knows his stuff. He even said there is goign to be a leak before he even installed it and tried his best to make sure he can make a tighter fit so it wouldn't. Its just a very very tiny leak that he said but should get it welded. I just notice the rattling but nto sure if it is hitting anything. I guess I have to put the car up on jacks and see. Thanks guys

well my car is a 98 and i had the same rattling problem. it was mostly coming from hitting the heat shield. I think it was partly due to takin out that peice of flex pipe to put in the pipe that connects to the headers.
i just took it to a shop and had them weld it all up for me so there wouldnt be anymore problems.

My cat is hitting my heat shield, but I do not have an exhaust leak. My cat is making bad hollow sounds.

I would either get a larger flex pipe to fit the new exhaust size and have that welded up, or get at the least a lower motor mount. see if when your at a light if you add a little gas so you at like 1000 to 1500 rpm that the rattle goes away. if so part of the reason is that the auto's idle really low, almost at the point of a stall and makes more vibes.

just my 2 cents

For those who have leaks, just tighten down the collector as much as you can.. You'll have to adjust it so it seals correctly.. I dont think you'd want to weld where the collector is.. I also used Stainless steel nuts and bolts where the collector is because the regular bolts will rust to ish after a while..

I have the high flow cat and it doesnt rattle at all.

I would get rid of the pacesetters. They have really @!#$ty welds and crack where the tubes meet the flange mating to your head.

I was always having issues with mine. Get rid of it. Your lower end suffers a bit, but mid/top end there's a HUGE difference. you won't so much notice when putting them on, but going back to stock, you'll notice the loss......

i installed mine the other night and i didnt weld it, i clamped it so i can go back and take it off if needed and since the downpipe is so close to the walls where the downpipe goes mine rattles while idle'ing sometimes also. im about to put some exhaust wrap around the downpipe though so it wont be metal hitting metal which is making that noise.

hmmm I thought about not welding it, but want to cover that leak i have. It's not that that bad I guess but don't want it to get worse later on down the road. Any suggestion?
