How the hell do you un-couple the damn thing.
Haynes says "squeeze the two white tabs together and pull the line from the filter.
No white tabs...No disconnect
In the future I dont want to do this (unless IM missing something simple). Is there a replacement fitting and or filter thats better, which I can retrofit?
ARRRRGH this is fudup.

How to do it:-

Using the wrench to push it off,as,above, usually works (Step 5)
What they look like new

From this picture you may be able to see what has broken off and what you need to move to release it.
My new filter came with a new clip so I clipped it on and off the new filter a few times, to make sure I knew how it locked before I fitted it.
I could see what was broken off on my damaged clip and managed to remove it-finally!
Hope it helps-Good luck

you have to push the line in closer to the filter then push the lock tabdeeper into the end to release the lock tabs , i usually use the round tip panel popper
from the looks of it you live in a road salt area , which makes that job alot harder , cause it corrodes easier , spray alot of rust penatrant in there to help out
it will hopefully break loose , if not you will have to change the fuel pump module , so you have a new end for the filter
if you replace the fuel pump module , pack grease into that end to keep the road salt out
what if the black tabs break off?? mine did now what??
