i just bought a 99 Z24, and was wondering if i would be ok to switch over to mobile 1, i have no idea what the other owners of the car used, as for it was bought at a dealer, and there is a FRAM filter on it i also have 174000km on it, i know that when i switched my old civic over to mobile one it blew out and cleaned up all the oil crud, and then it burned oil like no tomorrow and shortly after the head gasket went, so just wondering, and looking for some advice...

Duukiey, its really hard to tell. If any seals have leak spots that are covered in sludge, then mobil 1 could reveal it rather quickly, like what happened to your honda. If the car already has that many miles on it, I dont really see the benefit of switching to mobil 1. It would be great for the extended drain period benefit, but as far as your engine goes, its not going to provide any engine life benefit, whatever engine wear that has happened already has happened.

Ive switched a GMC Jimmy over to Mobil 1 at about 95,000 miles without a problem, but like I said, it really depends on the shape of the motor.

I use Mobil 1 in all my cars, but most all of them had it since the second oil change.
