i let my bro drive my car for a day and he tells my it idles only at 500 rpms and that it should be hire. also he said the car hesitates when you give it gas. should it be idleing that low and could that cause the car to hesitate

Does the car hesitate when YOU drive it? Define "hesitate". Does your brother drive a Corvette? If so then going into a Sunfire would feel like it is hesitating.

I have an auto also and mine idles at 500.

when it hesitates it does it off a stop when you go to give it gas. the car will pog down really bad.
I have a manual and it idles about 900 rpms
The 2.2L engine you have should idle at around 600 in a 4 speed auto
750 RPM basically all the time

my 2.4 Auto idles around 1200 rpms haha and no codes or vacume leaks so I dont know what the problem is. Couple firneds have Auto J-cars and there idle is at 5-700 rpms.

my 2.4 5-sp idles @ 1000 to 1100 and i hate it! i dont know why either? any one else? i have replaced the is sensor i dunno?
I have a 2002 Z24 (2.4L). The PCM says it should be idleing at 900rpm once it has warmed up.
