ouch. pulled over
Thursday, May 04, 2006 12:33 PM
I knew today was gonna be a bad day. not that anyone cares, but i always see people asking about tint limits. I just got busted today for my 20% tint on my front windows and windshield. Gotta take it off in 5 days and report to the police station. Im in pittsburgh pa..

THAT SUCKS. its cool though, ive been wanting to re-do it darker. it will just gimme a chance to take off the tint so i can re-do it... o yeah. he also got me for my liscence plate cover, iits BARELY tinted.

So why re-do it darker when you'll probly just get poped again andhave to break out a razor blade all over again? Sorry but that makes no sence at all.

yes because all cops are dicks when it comes to illegal things.

the tint is illegal, plain and simple and in pa you cant have the windshield tinted unless its the top eyebrow and then it still has to be in the limits

I 3rd what BaggedCav had to say . . .

If you are dumb enough to put an illegal amount of tint on your car, and the front windshield none to less and get busted, then its your own fault. What boggles me is that you want to make it darker. The cop already knows your car now, and its in the system that you were last recorded for illegal tint, what do you think is going to happen next time when they see you and see you just ignored the previous warning/ticket and went darker?!

In PA anything having to do with tint isn't "plain and simple". The 20% mentioned above is probably illegal, but you are allowed to have the windshield tinted as long as you can see through either the windshield, side wing, OR side window (haven't I already went through this with you Bagged?).

Here's the actually law, again.

CHAPTER 45. OTHER REQUIRED EQUIPMENT

SUBCHAPTER B. SAFETY AND ANTI-POLLUTION EQUIPMENT
§ 4524. Windshield obstructions and wipers.

(a) Obstruction on front windshield.--No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any sign, poster or other nontransparent material upon the front windshield which materially obstructs, obscures or impairs the driver's clear view of the highway or any intersecting highway except an inspection certificate, sticker identification sign on a mass transit vehicle or other officially required sticker and no person shall drive any motor vehicle with any ice or snow on the front windshield which materially obstructs, obscures or impairs the driver's clear view of the highway or any intersecting highway.

(b) Obstruction on side and rear windows.--No person shall drive a motor vehicle with any sign, poster or other nontransparent material, including ice or snow, upon the side wings or side or rear windows of the vehicle which materially obstructs, obscures or impairs the driver's clear view of the highway or any intersecting highway. The placement of a registration permit upon the side or rear window of a vehicle shall not be considered a material obstruction.

(c) Other obstruction.--No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any object or material hung from the inside rearview mirror or otherwise hung, placed or attached in such a position as to materially obstruct, obscure or impair the driver's vision through the front windshield or any manner as to constitute a safety hazard.

(d) Windshield wiper systems.--The windshield on every motor vehicle other than a motorcycle or special mobile equipment shall be equipped with a wiper system capable of cleaning rain, snow or other moisture from the windshield, and so constructed as to be controlled or operated by the driver of the vehicle.

(e) Sun screening and other materials prohibited.--
1. No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any sun screening device or other material which does not permit a person to see or view the inside of the vehicle through the windshield, side wing or side window of the vehicle.

2. This subsection does not apply to:
i. A vehicle which is equipped with tinted windows of the type and specification that were installed by the manufacturer of the vehicle or to any hearse, ambulance, government vehicle or any other vehicle for which a currently valid certificate of exemption has been issued in accordance with regulations adopted by the department.
ii. A vehicle which is equipped with tinted windows, sun screening devices or other materials which comply with all applicable Federal regulations and for which a currently valid certificate of exemption for medical reasons has been issued in accordance with regulations adopted by the department.

3. A certificate of exemption shall be issued by the department for a vehicle which is:
i. Registered in this Commonwealth on the effective date of this subsection and is equipped with a sun screening device or other material prohibited under paragraph (1) on the effective date.
ii. Equipped with tinted windows, sun screening devices or other materials for a physical condition that makes it necessary to equip the motor vehicle with sun screening material which would be of a light transmittance or luminous reflectance in violation of this section.
(A) A certificate of exemption for medical reasons shall be issued only if the owner or registrant of the vehicle, or a person residing in the household of the owner or registrant who regularly drives or is driven in the vehicle, suffers from a physical condition determined by the department, in consultation with the Medical Advisory Board, to justify the exemption.
(B) Any person requesting an exemption for medical reasons shall have his physical condition certified to the department by a licensed physician or optometrist.

4. A certificate of exemption issued under this subsection shall be carried in the vehicle and displayed on request of a police officer.

5. Upon the sale or transfer of the vehicle to any person who does not qualify under paragraph (2)(ii), the exemption shall be null and void. Prior to the sale or transfer of an exempt vehicle, it shall be the sole responsibility of the owner or seller of a formerly exempt vehicle to remove all sun screening or other materials from the vehicle. At the time of the sale or transfer of a formerly exempt vehicle, the owner shall remove and destroy the certificate of exemption for physical reasons and provide the purchaser with a notarized statement setting forth the name and address of the owner or seller, the vehicle identification number, year and model, and the business entity and process used to remove the sun screening or other material.

(f) Exception.--This section does not apply to mobile recording equipment installed in a vehicle exclusively used for official police purposes.

lol probably but i know for a fact that in pa you can not have the windshield tinted below the ab line thats indicated on the windshield. also if i remember right there has to be 75% of light shining through the windows in order for it to be legal. i talked to a cop about this like 3-4yrs ago but the laws on tint in pa might of changed since

Re: ouch. pulled over
Thursday, May 04, 2006 6:54 PM
holy @!#$, i didnt ask for all this. I didnt say the cop was a dickhead at all. He was actually a really friendly, and overall pretty nice guy. We talked for alittle while about tint and stuff, and what else is illegal that i should stear clear of. I know what i did was illegal, and im paying the price.

As for on my record, NO, its just a warning. If i recieved a citation, then it would be on my record, the only way i will ever be really screwed is if that particullar cop pulls me over again.

As for being stupid enough to tint my windows to dark, i think thats a stupid comment. At least it looks good, theres people out there doing way more stupid things than that...

No, my whole windsheild isnt tinted, although i wish it was. I dont have the balls to try it myself, too hard. Its tinted about 5/8th of the way down (estimate) he said its gotta be 3inches max.

Uhhh... Bagged, I just posted, and you quoted, the current law. There's nothing in it outlawing modest tint on the windshield (see the bolded part), so I'm a little confused with your statement that windshield tint is illegal.

Remember, cops may think it's illegal, but that doesn't make it so.
Re: ouch. pulled over

any tint below 3inches is illegal says the baldwin whitehall cop. honestly, theres so many different points of view, that i really think its up to the officers discression whats good and whats not

Re: ouch. pulled over

As far the license plate cover, doesnt matter if its tinted or not - any cover over the license plate, clear, tinted, smoked, etc, is illegal

Re: ouch. pulled over
Thursday, May 04, 2006 9:02 PM
pa law is 70% all around

Re: ouch. pulled over
Thursday, May 04, 2006 9:40 PM
my rear side windows are 5% but thats the only windows i did because i can't do the rear for a reason.. but last summer i was in pittsburgh alot and i had 2% on all my windows exp the front they never said any thing but i took it all off and i could see any thing

Re: ouch. pulled over

They just passed that law Jan 1 06 here in Illi. Used to be only clear was legal, now no cover is. It's b/c of those anti-redlight camera covers. There's still ways to defeat the cameras w/o it being visible by the naked eye tho - retarded idiots runnin' this dump state...

wrong. you can have w.e on the back three...nothing at all on the front 3.

Does nobody read.

THERE ARE NO PERCENTAGES GIVEN IN THE PA LAW. And you can tint the front three, as long as you can still see inside the vehicle.

Why?? Because there are a million other better laws the cops could be enforcing, like rounding up illegal immigrants, busting drug deals, busting old people who cant see and are all over the road and taking away their licenses, etc etc, but instead they are spending their time busting someone because their windows are too dark. Just a bunch of BS

uhm yeah i live in iowa....and yes it DOES make the cop a dick....a warning should be given in the first offense ALWAYS imo...
how does the cop know you if you really didnt know it was illegal...it IS posible! every state seems to have different laws on tint. you know...it would be real hard to know wtf the pigs want. i have gotten so many damn tickets here in iowa its not even funny. See...the cops really dont want you to take the tint off...it creates more revenue for them, why would they want you to take it off-seriously-imo

and YES they cops should be looking at the bigger picture of worse things happening
imo the ONLY reasons tint is illegal...
1.) the cops think that someone will be hiding in the car ready to shoot them..
well here in iowa you can have the bacK windows tinted as dark as u want...well wtf what if you have a 4 door u can just as easy hide in the back seat and shoot the cop while rolling down the back window!!
2.) cuz the cops think you cant see through the tint....WRONG...tint is made to see through from the inside-not in from the OUTSIDE-MORONS!!!!!!!!!

tint laws are retarded imo...yes some make sense-but others are just ridiculus
