I want to clean my engine. I know you can go buy engine cleaner for this applicaton but I would like to know from you guys what works the best. Simple green maybe. And if so would you dillute or straight? And I'm am deathly afraid of spraying water all over my engine with all those electric parts. Do I have to cover all the parts? Thanks
I'm not sure bout which engine cleaner is best...all I use is the stuff you get for the pressure washer...with pressureized water anything comes off...as far as sprayin your engine with water goes. Your never gonna spray as much over your engine as gets there normally when driving down the highway on a rainy day... those electrical parts are made to function in the wet. You'd never be able to drive around in rain or snow if they wern't. just dont go sprayin around your intake unless you make sure its seealed good and tight. maybe tie a bag over the cone filter if you have one.
Cheers!
I wouldn't worry about spraying water under the hood unless you've got exposed fuses, shoddy splices or something of that nature. I've used a pressure washer on mine for about 3 years now, no problems so far.
Here's what I do:
1) Bag up my cone & breather filter. Make sure that it's sealed pretty good.
2) Spray down everything with Simple Green using the Mist setting (uses much less chemical in order to get the job done). Let it sit for about 5 minutes (Go clean your tires or something).
3) Hose down your engine bay. No need to go full throttle with the pressure washer. The grease and grime should just melt away.
4) Let the car drip for a bit & then wip out a bottle of Armor All. Spray down everything that's plastic or rubber. Walk away and let the car sit over night. Don't forget to remove the plastic bags.
5) Come back in the morning, pop the hood & enjoy your sparkling engine bay.
