With the recent selling of my Miata I'm getting closer to getting a newer vehicle. Still need to sell my truck or find a dealer that'll give me a good trade in, so I have some time to think.
Just trying to pick your brains a little bit so I can start getting an idea as to what I can get with limited cash. My dad thinks I should look for something from the Big three, as they'll probably be more likely than ever to deal. Personally, I'm not really a fan of any of their cars : /
The only criteria I have is that the car be endorsed by the aftermarket and have a backseat.
I'm looking for something less than 5 years old and preferrably no more than 50K miles.
not under 10k. but i'd go SRT4.

That's not TOTALLY out of the question, it's not too much more. If I'm goig to be spending that much I'd rather go WRX. Honestly I'd like to spend less rather than more, but at the same time I want to get something I'll be happy with and be able to keep for awhile.
There are so many cars from the late 90's that I like a lot..pretty much anything above that I'm not real keen on the body styles of....Just dunno what's out there. I haven't been to a point to where I could actually spend some money in awhile. I just feel like 90's is too old.
GSR Integra....What? So i'm biased lol
Integra..I would love an Integra. That's actually what I'm considering. I've found several in my price range, with around 60K miles in excellent shape.
WRX was honestly my dream car. I was in high school when that car came out and I was bribed by my parents with one of those..They said if I didn't marry my high school girlfriend they'd buy one for me..I got married
With WRX's, I'd probably be looking at the 02-03 models. There are 3 on autotrader within 300 miles from me under 10K. Both are over 100K miles. How solid are they built and are there any problems with them? The miata had 165k miles on it..but it drives better than my truck which has almost half the miles and is 4 years newer. How much would I need to worry about getting one that had been badly abused?

What years? Plus I've read thread after thread on here about people having issues(expensive issues) with VW : / I am a fan though.
You can get 03s for 8 to 12k. You just have to keep up on the maintenance. When it time to replace @!#$ do it. I have had less problems (which is none) with my jetta than I ever did with my cavalier or my wrangler.
I looked at the GTI's and I LOVE the styling. I've found several that are only 4-6 hours away too. I just need to find a local one so I can give it a test drive. Just from the looks though I'm sold. Price is right too.

the mk4 should be around this price range now (99.5-05ish?). Just make sure that the maintence has been taken care of, and it should be fine. If you can, look for a Jetta 24v GLI. Not the best of the looking, but the 24v motor w/ a nice exhaust sounds AMAZING.

02-03 wrx's don't have the strongest tranny in them. now keep in mind i've seen guys run 300+ lbs/ft torque through stock 5spds, but they don't have the strongest gears/synchros it them. (might as well mention it before somebody chimes in with the weak tranny stuff) personally, my car has 111k miles on it and it has not been driven easily but i've had no problems with it.
imo, alot of the tranny issues are from people that are banging gears too hard. if you're trying to chirp the tires or shifting crazy fast, you'll prob. break it.
i've been nothing but happy with mine though.
LS1 f-body trans am or camaro

I've read that too. That sort of thing bothers me. I'd venture to say that people that buy WRX's probably don't buy them with the intent of going easy on them. My main worry would be that I'd be buying a car that is awesome...for all of 2K miles. I'm sure with the AWD, repairs for that would be a lot : /

FYI its the 03 GLI with the VR6
I think used Europea cars are the best value. I have a 99 Ford Contour that still runs just fine. Had to fix it a few times, but nothing expensive.
If I buy new, I like Japanese. Generally, I don’t spend more than $08k on a car. I may be lowering that limit soon.

YEa, mk4 was 99.5-05. Maintaince is the BIGGEST thing with these cars.... gotta make sure you are on top of it nearly at all times.
And I agree w/ the 24v and having an exhaust... it does sound awesome. The GLI with a 1.8t isnt too shabby either, quite a bit of aftermarket for them.

Mine was only 8500CDN with just over 50,000 miles. There are deals to be had, could even get a 99/01 Cobra for around 10k.
You can probably get a 2003-2004 Cadillac CTS for around 10 grand, especially with a 5-speed.
