My friend has the same exact car...except hers is black with a 5 speed manual tranny.
I pray too...they're nice looking cars but they just don't have a fraction of the reliability that they used to.
ill be the third to pray... i love the TDI's and all... and the 1.8T is was better then the 2.0L... but Paul is right... there not half as reliable as they used to be....
joining the others... my fiance has s passat with the 1.8t and has already replaced the secondary air pump and its already acting up again... now she says its starting to give off an odor from time to time.... i keep tellin her to sell it!!
good luck!
Glad I didn't buy a VDub reading those comments!
Though my old boss had a V6 Jetta that never had a problem, except that the trunk got crumpled by a truck. Maybe it's a turbo VW thing?
2010 Honda Fit LX
The biggest PIA with those cars is electrical. Half of the time, its annoying to get in there and figure out what is what, and see why something is happening. Even some VW Techs I know cant get them figured out.
As for the secondary air pump, just take it out. Its really not needed... you just get a CEL permantly.

I'm sure she is going to love the car and keep it for a long time. These cars are great to everyone I know that has one. One thing to watch out for is 60,000 miles do the timing belt change and keep up on the oil changes. I use the K&N oil filter for the girls GLI for better flow, but if you don't want to use that one at like 10 bucks a pop use the TDI one cause it is about twice the size to help keep no slug build up. Also if you want a cool sound put a intake on it... Darth Vader type sound yo... Plus will help with gas mileage.
I know I told you about how good they are, and just wanted to show you the girls 04' GLI Jetta 1.8T
BTW if you want I have a extra Auto metter steering colum holder for a gauge so you can watch how the turbo is doing with a boost gauge. Never used... If you ever need anything for the car go to
http://www.ecstuning.com. They have a sweet reprogramer to control the windows with the key fob you will love for about 50 bucks.
^^^only if you had that for the mk5 gti. i juts got one 2 months ago and i love it. good luck. i work for vw, i see enough coming on flatbeds but thats due to lowered car + low sitting oilpan + city potholes

We looked into it at local speed shop, but she really doesn't need it. She hits 13 psi and holds 12 with the GLI setup now. So I say she is good for now. She knows how to drive it, but not to play with it yet. Every now and then she will burn someone for fun, but this car is at a good level for her now. She might get an intake here soon to help with saving some gas money, but nothing major planed for the car.
I wanna know what car she "burns"
Sure isn't going to be anything fast.
And I think the new vw filters are larger to "help" with the oil sludge. Not sure if tdi filters fit.

Well she plays with some honda's from time to time. She never really knows what kind unless she can remember the shapes some. She messed around with an Audi A4 once that from the plate name I know it was a local with a GT30 turbo on it and got burned. The car isn't really fast fast, but it is quick with a 1.8T with a 6-speed hitting 12-13 pounds of boost. The filter might not be the TDI but there is a stock VW filter that is db the size that does fit.

You are funny! Stop being upset that you can't take the doors off this one and drive around. I hope the girl she has learned something about driving after the jeep thing.

false
How is that false?
because a TDI filter is an insert type, you take off the plastic housing and replace the filter element, therefore it will not work to replace a metal canister type filter.
Sorry but this is the one that I'm talking about...

Audi
A4 1.8T, 1996-05
A4 Quattro 1.8T, 1996-05
A4 Cabriolet 1.8T, 2003-05

New Beetle Cabriolet 1.8T, 2003-05
Golf 1.8T, 1999-05
Jetta 1.8T, 1999-05
Jetta Wagon 1.8T, 2001-05
Passat 1.8T, 1998-05
Note: This is an updated filter for all 1.8T motors. It is much larger.

I post about 4 to 5 times every month man. You need to come play some COD4 with us sometime soon.
My dad had the TDI... complete utter POS. His current one is the 2.0 n/a. Like a slug on rails, whenever the suspension decides to stay in one piece for more then 10K.
Just be aware the O2 sensors die often (5th one on my dad's so far, 2000 with 160K miles), and that you absolutely at all cost must follow your oil change schedule to a tee.
