THE 2008 MOTOR TREND TRUCK OF THE YEAR CONTENDERS:
Chevrolet Silverado HD
GMC Sierra HD
Ford F-250/350/450
Toyota Tundra
THE JUDGING CRITERIA:
1) Superiority. We look at engineering excellence, advancement in design, utilization of resources, and safety. Vehicle concept and execution are important, as are use or materials, packaging, dynamics, styling, and fuel consumption.
2) Significance. How well the vehicle does the job its maker intended it to do? And how does it impact or change its particular market segment, influence consumer perceptions, and transform product development trends?
3) Value. How does each truck compare against its direct rivals? A vehicle with a low sticker price might not be as good a value as a more expensive vehicle that delivers outstanding performance, quality, and functionality.
And the result wasn't as clear-cut as they thought it would be.

Im kind of disappointed to not see dodge on that list. Granted i'm not a huge dodge fan....it deserves it more than ford..
the truck has to last to be on that list...dodges are just horrible vehicles I refuse to ever own one
I would think Tundra, but I've heard some pretty bad quality issues with the Tundra (tailgate weld failure, early camshaft failures). If those hadn't occured, I would say Tundra easily grabs the award.

Chevy/GMC will probably win. They loved the Silverado last year.

X2, I'm surprised not to see NIssan titan on the list as well.

Does Dodge have a brand new truck for 2008?

Same question, is the Nissan Titan brand new for 2008? Or is it virtually the same as the 2007 model?

I was thinking the same thing on the Nissan Titan model, but then I looked at the "HD" models on the gm/gmc and then I saw the 250, 350 and 450. I'm not too sure if Nissan has a "heavy duty" truck. I'd like to see Ford win, but I know that the Silverado will win.

No neither does Chevy or Ford...

Let me rephrase....
Does Dodge have any trucks that were sold during the 2007 year that weren't sold in 2006?
Same for Nissan. Is the Nissan Titan that was sold during 2007 different than the one that was sold during 2006?
For a model vehicle to be eligible for Motor Trend truck of the year, it must be a new model for that current year.
Example, when the Silverado/Sierra were first launched, the HD trucks were not in the lineup. I believe the trucks were launched sometime in November 2006. The HD trucks were not officially available for sale until sometime in 2007. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.....

Hell if I know, but I'm not holding my breath for a GM win: if it happens, it'll be nice.
You cant be serious.
ROFLMAOLOL @ the obvious bias.

At least the Cheda Avaline didn't have a billion recall worthy issues with it.

agreed... unless I bought one brand spankin new and got the lifetime warrantee...
Its good to see the Toyota on there, they talked up the damn truck so much I would like to see how it does!
this gonna be updated when the winners are announced?
oh my bad.... eh.... essentially the GMC and the Chevy are pretty much the same truck with minor differences. If one wasn't going to win nor was the other...
Tundra has no style tho... The new chevy and the ford at least look badass. whatever. Toyota and GM have done plenty together, I wonder if they also had some influence on the Tundra...
Call me a skeptic, but I figured this was one of the reasons that Toyota delayed the launch of their Tundra until January, so they wouldn't have to compete with the Silverado for MT TOTY.
Whatever.

@!#$ Motor Trend. @!#$ Jap piece of @!#$ trucks. I'll send in my renewal card to those asswipes with a big ass skidmark across it and tell em to suck a fat one.
Anybody else notice in the Toyotathon Phenomenon Ads that they only wreck GM and Ford vehicles. They're either that cocky or they feel threatened by GM and Ford for upping their Quality.
ohh how this doesnt' surprise me. dam# biases
