One of the car magazines that I subscribe too said there is no SS or SS supercharged Cobalt for 2008? I wonder why?
There is no SS supercharged, I'm pretty sure the SS continues on.

Nope, the SS is gone too. It is replaced by the Cobalt Sport.
Yep, these guys are right.^
As for why it got killed? GM couldn’t meet the more stringent federal emissions requirement for 2008 and since it was a very slow seller, with S/C version only making under 3% of total Cobalt sales GM decided to drop it. There are rumors of the LNF Turbo Eco going into a Cobalt, but nothing confirmed, nor do I see it happing as there is a market shift sporty 5-door compact wagons; hence GM brought the HHR SS with the turbo engine.

I thought they got rid of it because their contract with Eaton was up?

I still think the HHR SS is a horrible idea. IMO it seems as though GM figured that since everyone else was bringing out sporty wagons, they had to aswell, just like Mr. Goodwrench said. Its just plain 'ol wrong, lol. But like I said thats just my opinion.
the ss/sc was on borrowed time the day they came out they had a few years before they were being killed
if youve been around here long enough its been said and you shouldnt be surprised about it
and only the 2.4 ss was changed to the sport , and the turbo is what will replace it , unless the hhr ss reigns supreme , or fails
gm should seriously just badge an Astra hatch with the LNF engine as a cobalt and call it a day.... after all they are basically the same car... to bad saturn is getting the hatch and with out the turbo to boot

This is interesting. So is Bob Lutz stating that the Astra will replace the Cobalt or that the Volt will be the new underpinnings for the next generation Cobalt replacement and Astra. Either way I think it's some interesting news as far as the Cobalt and Astra are concerned. The way I understand it is that the Volt will be the underpinnings for the next generation Astra but that Chevrolet would get an Astra model to replace the Cobalt.
Thoughts?
so I guess all roumors of an awd turbo balt for 09 to go after evo/wrx are toast?
or am I just coming the the conversation really, really late
I was seriously trying to plan how I would buy the v8 colorado(if they relaease it) AND buy the vehickle I mentioned above(if they release it)
gm would of made about 60g off my ass in 2 years but if they don't want to just let these cars be free.......................

Uh. Bob Lutz is kinda responsible for GM even being in the game of power. GTO, future Pontiac's. Sorry to say that looking at those cars, the kiddy sport model deaths are of no concern to me. I'm more ticked about the GTO, but we have the 2009 Camaro, so that equals out.
During my GM yearly new model features gm training, there was mention that the cobalt ss will return somtime this year. I've even heard rumors of this new model will blow the ss/sc away. there is no mention of what drivetrain it will have, but I'm more than sure it will be the turbo charged engine.
We'll just have to wait and see. now won't we.
im sure gm is just saving money and moving into the lnf 2.0 turbo the supercharged 2.0 is kinda like the first version of a Cobalt SS besides if you can have a 260 hp car stock or a 205 hp car stock which would you have the fact alone that the HHR has the turbo engine means the gm atleast in a mechanical sence can make a turbo fwd cobalt im sure there just talking there sweet time with it since the cobalts due for a upgrade within the next 3 years anyways

unfortunately I highly suspect there will NOT be a turbo cobalt, I just don't see it happening

I was at a GM function just before the Cobalt was out. They were talking about a turbo car for 08 back then.
That being said, the travelling GM product guys blow a lot of Hot Air. Their enthusiasm has always kind of pissed me off bewcause they really have no idea what it's like on the floor.
im sure gm is worrying about staying in bussniess rather then making a turbo cobalt besides if your balls are on the bandsaw what are you gonna do build a low volume car better or make better high volume cars sure once they come back around through the line up they'll have it boosted again
As of Yesterday, GM product people/airbags are now stating that the SS/TC will be here as an 08 model.
I don't believe GM is in trouble. Many divisions are doing very well indeed. Sometimes it's good to "show" that you are not foing well. Help from the government and consessions from the union are made possible.
