1993 Camaro Z28 Help!
Monday, August 06, 2007 5:55 AM
Recently, I've been looking for another daily driver other than my Jetta. I came across what I've been looking for this past Friday. I found a 1993 Camaro Z28 with FLowmaster Exhaust, K&N cold air system, and a few other goodies. The car is showing 127000 miles with an asking price of $5995. I talked to a salesman and he said that $4000 cash would take the car home. My question is, how dependable is this car's engine going to be with 127000 miles and is the car worth price, assuming it's in "good" condition. Sorry i don't have pics of the car, I know it would help. Thanks in advance.

My philosphy on used cars is anything over about 50k miles really depends on the previous owners and the maintenance that was done. You should only buy the car if you have a reserve of cash in anticipation of somethign going wrong.

Take the car to you favorite mechanic.
Visit a camaro forum.

Did you test drive it?

Way to much. A Camaro as a daily driver doesn't make much sense either. It doesn't get good gas mileage, it's probably not going to ride nice, and the insurance is going to be more.

I daily drove a 24 year old Camaro for a year and a half. Mine got horrible gas mileage, but mine is not stock and runs rich. A 93 Z28 should get considerably much better gas mileage than mine. They may not have the best ride, but they weren't designed for that.

Insurance? With just me on the policy, I have no idea.. with my mom on there, I pay $96/month for the Camaro AND Cavalier. I plan to wait until I'm 25 before I get my own policy.. only 5 years to go..

Winter time, not a good car to have... trust me. I did fine in mine, yes.. but still not the best thing to drive. Powerful V8 + RWD in snow does not mix well.

my trans am is 90$ a month for insurance in my name, and that was like 2 years ago.

127 on a lt1 is kinda high, if its been beat on (almost a garantee with an fbody) it might be close to an engine overhaul.

mileage on lt1's arent bad, probably 20 mpg or so as long as you dont floor it everywhere.

seems high and your buying from a used dealer, idk offer him 3k or walk

The price of $5995 is entirely too high. You can go to LS1tech.com and find lower miles and a few years newer for that price. $4000 is a pretty good price though if they'll really give it to you for that. I've seen LT1's with a lot higher miles than that on them and still on the original engine. Most likely the car has been beat on though since it's a 93 Z28 with mods done to it. Take it to a local mechanic that you trust and have them check it over before you buy it if you're going to.

You can find an LS1 for 5995. I wouldn't pay much over 3k.

My old 97 Z28 had about 125k on it when I got rid of it and it ran awesome still. Could hear a little rod knock at starup when it was cold but it would go away after it warmed up.

An LS1 for 6k? Laf. I wouldn't touch an LS1 F-body that was going for that cheap, somethings wrong there. Or its just a POS. But whatever... the thing yall overlooked is the fact he said they'd sell it for 4k... For that price, its OK. But like everyone said, don't be suprised if stuff starts crapping out on you...

Btw, the bike is a 2007 GSXR 750. The silverado will be used to haul it on longer trips to the track. The gear I have on is from when I had my R6, I have all new Black and Silver leathers and helmet to go with it now.
