MSD DIS-2 with boost retard questions
Saturday, March 15, 2008 10:30 PM
I looked all around here, and didn't quite get an answer to my questions regarding this. I can get one of this for REALLY cheap, would it be in my best interest to get it and use it?
Im having a hard time understanding why someone would want this, instead of say tuning with HPT to turn back timing in boost. I can see why it would be good in my situation though, since my ecu (2002 2200) can't read boost.

The MSD box has a vac line coming off of it, and a knob labeled "boost retard" I was reading a PDF file to the MSD DIS-2 6212, and it said i would need an optional map sensor. Does the same apply to this MSD box? Im sorry for the lack of info, but i am totally lost on this subject

The ignition will need to know what the intake pressure is in order to retard timing. If the box has a vaccum port, I am guessing it already has a map built into it. Post up a part number, it doesnt sound like any DIS 2 box I have seen. If it doesn't have one built in, you will need to get one. I am guessing you actually have the boost retard box, which just retards timing.

In my case, I am boosting decently high amounts, but using the stock 1 bar sensor in the cars computer, therefore eliminating the lost resolution problem that HPT has with our cars. I have a 3-bar map driving my MSD 6212.

Someone would want it if they weren't capable of retuning the PCM (say with HPTuners). Also, they could want it because HPT doesn't truly support an above baro MAP sensor and it can yeild some advantages.

"the MSD box" means what MSD box exactly?
A 6212 does not have a vacuum line at all. SO if we don't know what box you are referring to, no one can answer.
