Are Ford Green Top injectors the same clips as the RC injectors?
Tuesday, January 29, 2008 9:42 PM
Just wondering if someone could clear things up for me... I am almost 100% positive that my Ford Green Top 440cc injectors are clogged...(just all the symptoms point to that) so i am wondering if the RC injector clips are the same as the Ford Green tops?

As well other than RC injectors.. what else are you guys using? im looking for some 550cc injectors

All dynos run on a Mustang dyno

yes if you already changed your clips to run ford injectors you will be fine to run rc injectors, i switched from the ford green tops to rc 750cc which are now for sale, have to install 1000cc now

what were you running for injector size when you were running mid to high 300whp? by my calculations 440's would work for up to 345whp but they would be at %87 duty... and i know thats pushing the limits of what you want to run them... but then im not always foot to the floor

With a Brake Specific Fuel Consumption of 0.65 (typical BSFC for a turbo engine), at 300 whp you should be running about 60 lb/hr injectors at an 80% duty cycle. With higher fuel pressure, you can get away with slightly smaller injectors though.

0.65? that seems like a bit hit... RC's web site is typically high and they have it at 0.50.. i got my calculations from my old man though.. which i do trust as he has done this many times with his cars
because if i used a 0.65 brake specific.. it would say i need some where around 770cc injectors... which i know for a fact is much much higher then is needed for 350-400hp.. i just find a lot of web sites suggest a very big injector for whats really needed..

any way here are the numbers I/my old man came up with

Power (at wheels) ----------------- 300 324 347 370 393 405

Injectors cc/min ( @ 85% duty) ---- 391 418 443 469 494 507

they wont be dead on but they will be pretty close...

NA engines have a lower BSFC...somewhere around 0.5 (RC says 0.45 for a 4 valve, but I don't know much about that). You have to keep in mind the turbo engines have afr's in the 11's compared to the roughly 12.8-13.2 afr's seen by NA engines under WOT.

Every online calculator I've used gives me around 60 lb/hr injectors for 300 hp. If you are buying a completely new set, keep in mind that when sizing injectors, if you go above 85% DC, bad things start to happen, where the injectors don't have enough time to close and start to flutter or just stick wide open. If you are trying to use injectors you already purchased, then by all means, give em a try, but it is almost always better to estimate on the high side than the low side. Personally, I'll take a rougher idle over a blown engine any day.
