what are the best 3 gauges to go with turbo?
Friday, December 22, 2006 11:50 AM
i'm looking at getting the Lotec gauge pod, but i am torn between a EGT guage or Wideband O2 gauge, the others are going to be vac/boost 20psi (obviously) and oil pressure. my choice of gauges are going to be Auto Meter Sport Comp II. if any body has this style i would like to see a picture at night if possible.

Boost, O2, and oil pressure are absolute necessities. Fuel pressure isn't a bad idea, lots of people mount a gauge under the hood for that. The way I'm doing mine is:

Boost gauge on the A-pillar just above the dash. Wideband and fuel pressure on the steering column, and oil pressure where the cigarette ligher would normally be.

I like keeping things in easy reach but I hate having a stack of gauges on the pillar.

alot has to do with preference... for 98% of you who run boost will have it tuned and wont touch it from there which means really you dont need any, just take a look at the GM s/c'er kits...

but the ones i personally think are good to have (and again alot of it is just personal preference)

- Boost (Stewart Warner)
- Oil presure (Stewart Warner)
- knock gauge (Caspers)

O2 sensors are are 100% useless unless (just a nice light show basically) unless its a wide band, which again is pretty expensive to use probably a hand full of times.. you tune the car using it then once its tuned really why else do you need it?

fuel pressure.. meh i can see this one being some what usefull, you loose your fuel presure and you could be hooped, but again how much would you use it? and how many boosted cars from factory do you see with this? its mainly the oil pressure gauge you see... if you really want a fuel pressure gauge just do the one under the hood...

i think my choices are going to be EGT, vac/boost, and oil pressure. i talked to my buddy who does all the dyno tuning in our area. he said if i need to know the afr just weld the bung in the exhaust and he will monitor it while we tune. the EGT will let me know if i'm going lean so having fuel pressure is not really needed. we are also able to monitor fuel pressure on the dyno also.

if any body wonders who - PSI Motorsports, Slatedale, PA - Mustang Dynamometer

thanks for the info ....look for some pics in the future
