Alpine Speakers

Hey, I just got an Alpine CDA-9851 head unit. I was planning on gettin Alpine Type-R speakers for the front and rear. 6X9's in back and 5.25's in front. The problem is, on the Alpine site, there are no 5.25" Type-R's, but on Ebay, there is some. I was just wonderin if anyone could tell me if these 5.25's are legit or are they some how not Type-R's. Also, for the front speakers I'm still kinda undecided on what size to get. I know I don't want 4x6's, but what are you guys' opinions on front speaker size. 5.25's seem like a good size, but are 6.5's better in some ways or what. Just give me your opinions. Thanks.

They are probably Type-S or Type-X. I have Alpine Type-S 6.5 Components in the front of my car and Alpine Type-S 6X9's in the back with 2 MTX 12's in the trunk. Since you'll have to buy or make an adaptor to mount either on in front I would probably go with the 6.5 over the 5 1/4" so you can get a little more bass up front.

I'll prolly go with the 6.5" Type-R's up front then. It just seems like such a big speaker to fit behind the door panel. Also, how much better are component speakers over coaxial. I've always wondered how much of a difference the little amp makes.

Sorry BitchinJ, Type-X's are a little outta my price range. lol

I've heard the Type-R's require a "minor" amount of cutting to get it to fit. As far as component quality over coaxial, the "little amp" isn't an amp, its a crossover. What it does is send the right frequencies of sound to the right speaker. The crossover will be hooked up to a woofer and a tweeter, it'll send higher frequencies to the tweeter and mid range and lower freq's to the woofer. (simplified explanation)

Even a mid-priced component set will sound better than most high end coaxial's. components generally get more R&D, which equates to a better product. Go components you'll be happy you did (make sure you amp them correctly)

a lot of coaxial speakers come with crossovers as well(JL comes to mind)...so i would say it's preference, and it depends on the company.

personally i like components better, because you can position them for better imaging,
