I'm really just looking for some consultation here and whether there are local members who have done this before.
History - I installed a maganaflow cat, CTI 2.5" cat back and dynomax superturbo on my eco cav. I used clamps and adapters for everything, so its not the cleanest install and it just doesn't quite hang how I want. I also have a pacesetter LSJ header and an 18" resonator to install, so I thought I'd leave it all to pros this time.
I turn to Claude Mervine's because of excellent service in the past and proximity - <3 miles from my house so I don't need a ride to/from during. HOWEVER, they told me that the header install is "more mechanical" than the kind of work they do there. WTF??
So i have to install the header and basically let the downpipe hang the day before my appointment there. Then i have to drive three miles w/ open header and hope the car makes it, and it will almost certainly throw a CEL right?
So any ideas on if It will make it to the shop? Or should I try to find a different shop that will do it all and just work around the distance factor? How hard is a pacesetter header install on the eco? It looks straight foward, but who knows...
Well since you got the lsj header, you wont be able to use the downpipe. I drove just about 2-3 miles to the shop when I originaly put my pacesetter header on my ld9 and it was just the header. I dont remember if I got a cel that fast from just having the rear o2 not hooked up, but if you do just unplug the battery for a bit.
Thats stupid they wont install the header though. I actualy had the shop put the downpipe on mine just cause I didnt feel like dealing with it lol.
I had to Mervine from Boyertown (about 30 min drive) with open header when I had them make my exhaust last year. I got a CEL about half way there...pulled over, disconnected the battery, reconnected and went the rest of the way. No real problems though.
Sweet, so I should be able to make it 3 miles then. I over layed the LSJ header over the stock mani last night and it looks like the stock d/p will be very close to connecting to the lsj after the ball-joint. I'm having a 2.5"DP made anyway.
So i guess I'll have to use a clothes hanger or something ghetto-rigged like that to hold up the dp? Lol this should be interesting...
yeah..you'll be fine on a 3 mile trip...and excellent decision choosing Mervine...those guys will take top notch care of your car...ive been 110% satisfied with all the work they've done for me so far.

Well they can't suck more than me at exhaust install anyway. I have before pics of the cat and cat-back as I installed them, I'll get pics of their work and you can all laugh at me...lol I wont touch exhaust again.
Looking forward to the open header run next week at this time
Well I installed the header on sunday without too much hassle. There was one nut that I could not turn onto the studd because the primary was just totally in the way, but it should be fine. Eco with open header sounds well...hilarious.
my buddy drove 40 mins from philly with a civic hatch that had a gsr and open header all the way home with no problems. besides the car being extremely loud, it was fine.
rodimus prime drove 8 hrs on an open header from ohio to harrisburg pa
THAT was loud

damn, how'd you guys do it? I took it on the highway just for fun and I couldn't hear my buddy who was screaming at me in the passenger seat. That was not WOT, just cruising. At WOT, it definately scares children!
I have the anticipated CEL by the way. Once the system is hooked back up, should it go away on its own, or do i need to unplug the battery or something?
I wish I would have gotten some video/audio of the open header, but I know it would have sounde like ass on the computer. I'll be sure to post up a vid of the final product though
once you get it home, and its all hooked up, it should be fine as it will recognize the o2 sensor working correctly...or it should. if not, just unhook the batt. for 15 mins, and hook it back up. it will re-learn itself
Well Mervine's kinda screwed it up. They removed my dynomax muffler and installed the resonator where the muffler should be. Now I didn't specifically say " do not remove the existing muffler" I just said install the resonsator. He said that he assumed I just wanted it louder. It sounds like complete ass.
So, after 200 bucks for the dp/ O2 sensor bung and rehang - it goes back in wednesday. I also noted that the bend over the rear axle is now hitting the axle, where it wasnt before, even with my sloppy install. At least the down pipe was done perfectly...
open header is not funny, its painful
