Hello I was just curious on everyones input on gutting out the A/C. My buddy of mine doesnt run A/C because he says its one less pulley to turn. Does it make more power if i gut out the A/C i mean im dropping a motor in the Z in a few weeks but i want this car to be quick while at the same time being my daily driver. On the other hand as hot as its been in my base model cavalier i been pumping the A/C like crazy and my friend wants me to keep it. So should i keep the A/C or should i gut it out if it makes more power? when i say more power i mean a noticeable difference? your input is much appreciated! Thank You
You might as well keep it.
It does suck up the power when it is on but when it is off the amount of power it uses it minimal. I personally feel that comfortabeard it will use about 5hp while in use....and when not..maybe 1.
Lets rephrase that lol...
I personally feel that comfort is worth the few hp. I have heard it will use about 5hp while in use and 1 when not.
I plan on keeping the a/c on mine but i just cant get this tensioner pulley to release tension....anyone ever had this problem?
i had a hell of a time convincing my honda buddy that when the as is off it only drags as much as an ider pulley on a belt tension for instance. Long story @!#$ it was in a box by the end of the week cuz he was super hardcore lol.

if it works, keep it. if it dies, ditch it.

keep the ac it's not worth the little weight reduction you'll get and just as someone already stated the ac has a clutch which freewheels until you turn on the ac so it's not costing anymore power than a ac delete pully would.
dale not talking about using a delete pulley talking about bypassing the ac entirely removing the pump condenser the lines everything and just running a shorter belt
Keep the AC, I don't have A/C in my mustang and it's brutal, I think the previous owner was building to be a weekend drag racer so when it went out he yanked it. The mustang guys claim it uses 8hp and i would gladly give up 8 hp for ac.
I dont have it, but i manned up and knew what I was getting into in the long run. I needed the room so mine was justified. Odds are Ill never put it back in the car. Do I miss it? sure, but to me, ill miss it less when I boost the @!#$ out of my car.
as someone who removed a fully functional a/c when I swapped engines.
if you live in a temperate climate, where its hot in the summer and cold in the winter, its not so bad 3/4 of the year.. but when its hot you WILL miss it.
if its in the way or you're maximizing weight reduction, then thats a different story... but if it is NOT in the way of anything and you don't mind the weight, then keep it. you'll thank me.
I had a daily driver with no a/c for a few years and it sucked. that car has been retired to racetrack only and severly limited street use.. my new daily (while I have modified it quite a bit) will be keeping the a/c and last weeks heat wave... I'm glad I had it.
ps. you want to keep the girlies comfortable in the car? keep the a/c.
Ac uses more than 5hp if your supercharged

about sums up what i was gonna say.....
living in FL its hot and humid alot of the time so not having AC sucks but in the long run the cavy im building is not going to be DD'd anymore so i wanted to lose what i dont use
RIP JESSE GERARD.....Youll always be in my thoughts and prayers...
