Hey guys, I have a question for ya, I was driving my car tonight and getting on the on ramp of the highway then all of a sudden i heard a couple noises from the engine compartment and the motor quit running and now when i go to turn it over it spins really fast. I first thought the timing chain broke but i took the valve cover off and everythings looks fine, what else could it be?
Any help will be appreciated
Thanks, Josh
nope, I checked that right away
I don't know man, it sucks
Do a compression test. If you dont have anything take a better look at your timing chain. I have seen a few Eco chains that broke yet looked fine and were still tight looking from the top.

If the timing chain broke the valves would be in the piston's, and it would likely not turn over at all.

not necessarily, we had... (LOL) 3 come in to my work in the past year that had bent valves, that turned over just great, sounded fine...
but all intake valves kissed pistons.

Ahhh there's nothing like the sweet sound of the valves kissing the pistons *flashbsck*
Sorry to hear man, I have no clue what it could be. What's the sound when you try to crank it?

wrong there. The valve will just bend out of the way or put a hole in the piston. I have seen enough to know. I also had several valves in my engine make unsweet love with the pistons and other than a misfire you couldnt tell that there was anything wrong. we even had one Eco at the dealer that bent every valve and still cranked over, just a little faster than it should have.
actually, my money is on a failed timing chain tenchoner.

after we pulled the valve cover... we tryed t crank it over, and the timing chain is fine. the cams make a complete revolutions. the motor sounds like it cranks over really fast. before we towed it back to josh's house, tryed to start it again and after a few cranks there was a metal clank sound from some where in the motor.
Did you pull any of the plugs yet????
last time the car kept cutting fuel we pulled plugs and found metal shavings on cyl 1. didnt pull em last night, but it was 2 in the morning and we were a little tired

My Sunfire is a prime example of that, redlined strong in every gear, though only presented a rough idle.
Ok guys, well after the compression was 185 across the board, i started looking at other things and realized it wasn't getting any spark so i replaced the coil setup and it started right up.
I guess i shouldn't jump to conclusions so fast lol, At least nothing major went wrong.
Thanks to all that replied
