if I install the lightened crank pulley and alternator pulley, will I still be able to run my sound system? i've heard from other jbody members that that they cant even run their ac?

if the are the lightned stock size you can run the same stuff..now if it is underdriven..thats another story..

probably not the best idea. Now it depends what engine you have but there is a gp on lightened alt and 2.4l crank pulleys...get in on it

it all depends on the power options your car has... if its fully loaded with sunroof you will have problems, if its a base model with manual everything it should be ok. i would either just get an UD crank or the bigger alt. pulley though, not both.

but like philly said, just get the stock sized stuff from mike in the group purchase (if you have a 2.4) and it wont be an issue and yull reap the benefits of the light weight and still retain the same charging.

ok so if i just put on a lightweight alternator pulley it will be fine...well i just found out that the crank pulley is smaller than stock size and it is also lightweight...will that affect my air conditioning or system? will the power difference be noticable?

the minimal gains you get from underdriving the accessory's is not worth the trouble, stock size is the way to go. at least on our cars...

Smaller you will have issues...STOCK size you will be fine.

smaller you MIGHT have issues if your car has every option and you want a huge stereo...

here's my experiences, take them for what they are.

97Z with barely any options, no rear defrost, sunroof, pw, pl, not even cruise control-2.3 HO crank pulley (smaller then a 2.4's). i had a small stereo, mtx amp and 10" sub and it worked fine and i did not have charging issues.

98Z with EVERY option-fully loaded- RSM underdrive crank pulley, even with a beefed up alternator (180 amp over stock 105), the big 3 wiring upgrade, optima red-top battery AND secondary optima yellow-top in trunk and i have problems with the car being dead after it sits for a few days, as well as i have to charge the battery a lot due to it being dead. the dome light is always pretty dim, the headlights get dim. its a problem. im hoping to fix it with a stock sized RSM crank pulley.

now- you can argue that the beefed up alternator was the culprit of the situation as its been confirmed that it DOES NOT put out as much as a stocker at idle. BUT, the year before i had that same 2.3 HO crank pulley on the car with the stock alternator on it and it even had charging issues then.

its really up to you man, try out the UD crank pulley and see, if you start to have charging issues its time to get the stocker or a stock sized aluminum one on there. but i absolutely WILL NOT recommend using the underdrive crank pulley AND a larger alternator pulley at the same time, the alternator-even a stocker is going to be so over-worked and even if it does work for a while, eventually its going to give up on ya and yu'll need a new one, over and over and over again.

so, to sum it all up... use either a crank pulley OR the alt. pulley, not both. if you start to have problems, change back to a stock sized.

I have the UR underdrive crank pulley with NO stereo system and my alt does not charge at idle. I also have an auto which makes a slight difference since I idle at slightly lower rpm's than a manual.

A SMALLER diameter Crank pulley is slowing down your alt. A BIGGER dia. Alt pulley slows down your alt. This is why people are telling you to stay with stock size pulleys that are lightened (aluminum)
