My friend suggested advancing my timing chain by 10-15 deg which he says will increase h.p in most cases...
I heard from another source it will give better pickup, but decrease top speed...
Can anyone back either up, or will it just completely F@%k my engine

This is most likely what will happen, as advanced cam timing increases low end and hurts top end horsepower.
Advanced "spark timing" will increase horsepower...You retard cam timing if you are going for high horsepower, but you
ABSOLUTELY NEED A DYNO to determine any gains from advancing or retarding cams.
If your friend is talking about increasing valve overlap by 10-15*, then he
might have a clue what he is talking about. If he is telling you to advance the intake and/or exhaust cam by 10-15*, he doesn't need to be giving you advice about engines.

"Youth in Asia"...I don't see anything wrong with that.
Dont bother advancing or retarding cam timing.. you'll end up hurting yourself more then helping. Expecially if you dont know what your doing. If you want spark advance, find someone with HpTuners, or buy it yourself.

no man refers to acceleration as 'pick up'
don't touch your engine, research a bit in the tuning forum on engine tuning, or pick up a book at a local store or on amazon.com about EFI and engine tuning.
you'll learn tons
Pick up... if you tune it like that, a 2.2 S-10 "pick up" will murder ya

Here's some solid advice.
DO it...
Take the chain off, turn the cams about 90 degrees, put the chain back on.... doesn't matter what direction you turn them in....
Then go race a wicked civic or something.
Let us know how it worked out for you.
