yeh i was thinkin about buying a short throw shifter for my grand am...and i was having a hard time finding one,so i found a few for a cavy....but my question is what happens with the lil reverse lockout thing? will it be on the new shifter?and how do you get the stcok shift knob off....i tried turning it, and i look for lil screws..no luck...plz help..thanx
It comes with the lock out even the ebay ones have them. Also Just yank at the shift knob its really on there but turn and pull and you should get it off. It might take a few tries but keep yanking at it.
there is a little key in the front of the shifter knob that you pull out. feel for it. then it should just pop right off
Im pretty sure reverse lockout is in the transmission, and has nothing to do with the shifter. Listen to the transmission when your going from reverse to any gear, or 5th to reverse...

he's talking about the plastic lock out on a part of the shifter assembly.
any cavy shifter will fit. all the years that had reverse lockout on the cavy had them on the grand am. if your looking for an inexpensive one go with ebay (i wouldn't personally) or cosmo racing (not bad quality for the price) or go with the fidaza or b&m (the B&m comes with the knob and the fidanza doesn't). just get the shifter for the cavy in the same year as your grand am
I have the an ebay shifter, no problems what so ever. Don't Hate Ebay....Learn How to Shop On Ebay.
