hi guys, first off i am dealing with a 96 2.2 5speed cavvy. the motor bew up! now i got a 95 motor from the salvage yard we were changing everything over to it when we had realized that there was no cam sensor on the 95 motor! i just wanted to see what i can do at this point. Should i change the ecu and re-pin it to the 95 ecu, or is this even possible what i am trying to do! HELP ME!
it would probably be easier to get your hands on a 96 cam, drill and tap your block for the cam sensor, and just drop it in.

I as going to do that, but the 95 block does not have the mounting surface or the provision for the cam sensor..
When you are loking at the back of the 95 block all you can see is the "bump" for the cam , there is no flat surface like there is on the 96 block for the sensor! If i could find the pin outs for the 95 5speed car versus the pinouts for the 96 5 speed then i could probally just re-pin it to match the 95 ecu. I would just go out and buy the motor for the 96 but i have 425.00 in the 95 motor right now!
IIRC, you need to not only repin your harness for the 95 ECU, but also find an OBD1 plug to go into the 95 ECU, as I believe they first changed in 96.
Someone else can verify for me.
GM says that the actual DIS is the same from 94-96, but the arrangement of the wires might be different. (ie, tachometer might be a direct wire from the DIS to the dash)
(Sigh) Welcome to my world, Tony. I was just gonna swap a 2000 tu-tu into my '94 truck a few years back because of destroyed rod bearings (LN2 owners: Replace your timing chain at about 80,000-100,000mi or suffer the consequences!) and wound-up just throwing a crank, bearings, oil pump & pickup tube in it because of too many differences betweem the two that I learned of on the spot. I still have that '00 LN2 sittin' in a friend's garage if anybody wants to come get it (Cash please!).
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
You might try look into an aftermarket device which will generate a cam pulse built by, I think, MSD. The Eco guys talk about using it so they can ditch the Ecotec ignition module.

i have done it. all you have to do is repin your harness to the 95 ecu plugs. you wont need anything for the cam sensor. you will need the 95 map sensor tho. then if you want to tune it, you have a better option than HPT.
i think the haynes manual has both wiring diagram at the end of it. thats not hard, it just take some time. you will have a couple wires that you wont use anymoore like egr, 2nd O2 and cam sensor...
