i am sick and tired of my little 2.2l in my 97 sunfire. i am lookin into a motor swap. what would be the easiest swap to do but still have some power. i have heard of many with the z24 motor and some with the ecotec 2.2 but i really dont know what would be the best choice. i dont wanna do much modification if i can help it. any suggestions???
For ease of swap, then yes...

You go to a wrecker, find a 96-99 Z24/GT/LS/SE with the 2.4L and whatever same transmission you have. Grab the engine, transmission, engine bay wiring harness, exhaust downpipe and PCM. If you have a 3-speed auto and upgrade to a 4-speed auto, grab the axles too. Then take the engine, trans, etc out of your Sunfire and swap it in. Bolts in, wiring harness plugs in, no problems. Re-program the Passlock (10 minute procedure in the FAQ) and you're good to go.
If you swap in an Eco, or a newer motor... you need to swap all the wiring in the car... swap airbag modules... deal with all the other Class 2 crap that started in 2000. Not such an easy swap anymore.
Auto to 5 speed swap requires welding. Again, not so easy swap, compared to the simple bolt-in-and-go.
There's little things along the way too... but you'll figure them out easily enough
