okay guyz I need some help and some valuable information here. The place where I sent my block to get some forged internals installed I also ask them to do the 2.3 oil pump swap. I gave them a how to from a list I found on here on jbody now they want to know whats the pros of doing the swap. He told me to find out why do it and what does it do to add the 2.3 oil pump versus the 2.4. I remember something about it works better under higher rpms but he wants know the details and pounds of pressure. So please help me guyz cause i want him to finish my dam LD9 already, thakz

I'm not sure about this... but isn't it YOUR car?? and you are paying him YOUR money to have him do this?? Why would he care? Shouldn't he just do it?? Sorry this isn't really helpful but...?

^^Exactly, they dotn need that info..

Yes, pump is a better pump, pumps more volume, eliminates our dreaded 2.4 balance shafts etc.

its a better oil pump , is pretty much all he needs to know

the 2.4 pump is part of the balance shaft assembly and not the best arrangement

What does he suggest you do to save money? You could chamfer the oil holes on the crank. But the way it was explained to me then you would loose some oil pressure.

DO NOT GO TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE OIL PUMP! I bought my oil pump from Advance Auto parts for $109.99 The gear I also bought from an auto part store as well as the pick up tube. The brace I got from a junkyard. The windage tray I got from Taetsch Z-24. He gets a big employee discount. Please read the 2.3 oil pump swap info jsut a litle ways down on the page. That is why it is there.

What does he need to now the oem one airates the oil at high rpm causing the no.3 rod bearing to fail. the 2.3 pump does not have this problem end of story.

oil pressure is not the most important thing, but oil supply.

some reputable shops want to know what some mods are suppodes to do and even if it going to hurt the engine instead of helping it because there work has there reputation standing on it and dont want to do any thing that will give them a bad name

THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE, i have already died once and im still here so lets just leave it on the track

Go to the post here about the 2.3 swap and print out all of the pictures showing exactly what needs to be done, that's what I did when I took my block to the shop. I printed out the pics and the detailed instructions and gave them to my machinist, he is also going to progresively enlarge the oil passages to the mains so that the front bearing will get the same oil supply as the main closest ot the oil pump. Plus I have a custom 6.5 qt oilpan from Atomic which shold also help keep from spinning any bearings.

This is why I keep my car about half a quart or more overfull on the dip stick, and run larger filters when I can find them. If it wheren't for the oiling system, ld9's would be dang near perfect engines. (minus the coil housing location anyway)

Because there are other causes for a spun bearing- like if you don't have enough oil, or the oil has broken down from excessive heat or use, or if your water pump starts leaking, causing coolant to get mixed into the oil, etc.

Improvements-
--- 15+lbs. removed from theengine and sevral pounds removed from the rotating mass due to removal of the balance shafts
--- Less potential components to fail due to removal of balance shafts (cahins, gears, bearings, etc)
--- Less demand on the oil system because there is no oil going to balance shaft bearings.
--- Consistant Oil Flow to 8000 rpm, stock 2.4 pump begins to cavitate above 6000rpm causing pressure to drop off as rpm increases.
