I have a 1997 cavi with a 2.2 and 5spd. I just rolled over 200K miles the other day and am planning on a total motor rebuild, all performance wise. What motor should i use. I'm thinking of building and swapping in a 2.4 and 5spd. what are the pros and cons of the 2.4 and the eco. i dont know much about the eco motors. Also, where is a good place to get performance parts from. I want this motor to be complete performance, with a turbo and possibly some NOS. any help will be helpful.
check the "performance" and "third gen" forums. enough info in those forums to keep you reading for days.

97-99 2.4 quad 4 easiest to swap in
First off, sorry bout posting in the wrong forum. I wasn't thinking. Second, Im not familiar with cavi engines other than a 2.2. What does quad 4 me. thanks in advance
Here's some terminology that wil help you while you are searching and reading info for days in third gen, performance and faq sections.
Quad 4 - familly of engines that include a mess of variations. The main ones to consider are the ld9(aka 2.4L twin cam), the LG0(aka High Output Quad 4 16V) and possibly the w41(rare limited prodection higher performance version of the LG0). Also a basterd hybrid child of the LO Quad 4 and the ld9 that only came in 95 z24's and gts.
balance shafts - integrated into the oiling system of the ld9 and 95 LO quad, help to internally ballance motor and mainly to keep nvh down
Also topics to look for/in
-secret cam swap sitckey
-086 head swap
-2.3L quad4 oil pump swap
That barly scratches the surface of what you can do. Honestly if read through all the info on the page and still have quesstions, i'm sure no one would have a problem helping you because you will be asking knowledgeable questions or ones that may not have been asked before.
You can also PM if you get really confused and can't figure your way out.
Good luck.

W41isn't an engine, it's a vehicle option package. The W41 package included a factory tuned LG0.

That's like saying LG0 isn't an engine becuase there is the LO version, it's enough of a difference to be differentiated because of the cams and engine tune. But i can see what your saying, this is just to let him know there is another engine code for a different engien to look up.

does anyone have or know where i can get a useable block and head for either an LGO or LO. i dont have a lot of money. It needs to be inexpensive.

inexpensinve on a swap? well good luck on that all i can add is maybe the junkyard or a place where they sell good working engines out of wrecked vehicles. Im currently rebuilding my LD9 and its costing my every paycheck, but its well worth it to me cause I plan to hit high boost with the forged internals I added. good luck though and i hate that dam 2200 engine
GMR has got nothing on this
Why you want the LO head? And yea should be able to get one from a wrecker for cheap.
