$1500 LD9 Build
Saturday, June 16, 2007 9:10 AM
Heys guys I have a 96 Z 5 speed and am wanting to start a new build. I would one day like this motor to be boosted so I am looking to build towards that direction. Short story....threw some bearings and decided to go ahead and overhaul it with 2.3 pump swap and some low compression pistons. Maybe stg 2 clutch and lightened flywheel. So do you guys have any suggestions on where to go for good deals on piston and rod combos? And any other suggestions for the build. Like i said i have about $1500 to drop into it right now so i wanna get it going. Thanks in advance guys

For $1500 you are not going to get a built motor. YOu are looking at that in just parts (if not more).

A few years back I rebuilt a 2.4. We used the orginal piston's, rods, cams, crank. We replaced all bearings, oil pump, water pump, all gaskets, had a valve job done. Had the rods re sized, block hot tanked and check, honed it our selves, new Advance auto clutch and spent right at $900 (maybe a little more).

So you going to hot tank the block, and bore it out for larger piston's, size the rods, machine the block for the 2.3 oil pump?? If so great. I would also think if you had the stuff to do all that then you would not have started this post.

I have always been a V8 guy along with most of the ppl in my family so im new to the compact scene, but the org has really helped me get to know my little LD9 and I appreciate all the help you guys have given to me. I was just not sure where I should start to squeeze power out of this motor would be. Im guessing just like any other engine. Bigger pistons, hot tanked. The oil pump i hear is good for this motor so im def. gonna do that. But thanks for the starter ideas guys I will let you know how the build goes
