'95 S-10 4.3 Blazer Fuel Pump and the ECO
Wednesday, April 04, 2007 10:35 AM
I just picked up a fuel pump for a '95 S-10 Blazer with a Vortec 4.3 VIN:W from NAPA yesterday afternoon. I was going to try to attempt this yesterday but I had to rip a tubro, motor and tranny out of a lebaron yesterday and it took a little longer than I wanted it to, so I never got a chance to work on my '03 Sunfire which the fuel pump stopped working on me last Sunday night. I read the FAQ on swapping the Blazer pump into our cars and a couple of threads but none of them seemed to be real clear on wether it can be done on the ECOTEC. I'm going to be attempting this this afternoon in a few hours... Is there ANYTHING at all that I possibly should get in addition to the pump to make this work? I need to get this fixed by Friday so I can get to work this weekend. Am I wasting my time and should just go to NAPA and get one specifically for my car? Or will this work? I was looking at the pump last night after I read this from the FAQ:

"All you need is the pump itself, not the assembly, or the sender, just the small pump. After you get this pump you'll notice 2 small slightly curved tabs on the bottom. Cut these off, as flush as possible with the rest of the bottom, dont worry, just a snip. Now the pump is exactly the same as whats in the fuel tank. So, drop the tank, remove the assembly, then follow these directions to get to the pump itself inside the assembly."

I didn't see any such tabs on the pump to cut off, which is making me have doubts about the project. It came with a cylinder shaped rubber boot though that fits around the pump it seems. The weather is really crappy out today but if this works I will try to take pictures if I can so that someone can add it to the FAQ. The FAQ is nice, but it would be even better with pictures. Once again, if ANYONE thinks there's ANYTHING I might possibly need that I am missing please let me know. Or if you know for sure that this can not be done on the '03+ models let me know so I can just stop by NAPA and pick up one for a my Sunfire. Any info would be greatly greatly greatly appreciated. I've been without wheels for the entire week and I'm starting to go insane... and I really need to be able to get to work. I drive 4 hours away to New York City every weekend for work and my wedding is coming up on May 5th. I just put in my time off request for the weekend of my wedding and the weekend afterwards for the honeymoon. If I have to take off this weekend there is no way he will let me have both of those weekends and I will be losing a lot of money on the honeymoon. Like I said, ANY tips will be greatly appreciated.

Well, me and a friend gave this an attempt yesterday afternoon... This mod doesn't seem to apply to the ECO. There is no return on the Blazer pump and there is one on the ECO's, plus the wiring connections are completely different. Waste of time & $. Better off just buying a better pump later on. Gonna stop by NAPA today and pick up a stock pump and assembly and be done with it for now.

Ummm... I stand corrected... Yesterday I picked up the new fuel pump and assembly from NAPA for the Sunfire and oddly enough it looked different than the original one me and my friend took out the other day. Hoses, wire connections, and even the filter was different. It even had the black tabs that everyone said needed to be cut... The Blazer pump would have definitely worked with that assembly, where as nothing matched up with the old one (Acdelco). It's almost as if they were two completely different pumps. Sadly enough I left the Blazer pump home and I needed to get the car working again so I could get to NYC for work today.... so I just stuck the new one in and was done with it. I'm gonna hold onto the Blazer pump and put it in when I get boost. But yeah like I said... I stand corrected.
