Whatup everyone
Heres the deal, I changed my exhaust from manifold to muffler a few months ago. I want to make it quieter than it already is. I had though i did my research but i guess theres something i missed because its still not as quiet as i want it to be, although it has the deep sound that i like.
This is what i have ( on a stock 95 2.2L:
DC Sport header 4-2-1 header with a 2.25 outlet
Magnaflow Hi Flow Universal Catalytic Converter 91005
20" Dynomax Thrush Magnum Glasspack Muffler
2.25" piping, ( bending not to good, some creases )
Dynomax Super Turbo Crossflow Muffler 17739 ( camaro ), for that dual exhaust look.
All welded from header to muffler, ( which now im startin to think is a bad idea.
Performance is great. I can really feel the difference definately a few horses more! just that it's still a little too loud for my taste.
Also another thing, the cat seems to be making this gargling noise. a lot of extra noise. Could this be from a leak in the exhaust somewhere, allowing extra oxygen into the cat causing excessive burning inside?
I know u guys have a bunch of different exhaust setups. Some quieter than others. Help me so I dont set off anymore car alarms!!
OOOHHH one more thing! when i shut the car off, smoke will still waft out of the tailpipes for a few seconds. Not continually as if it was running, just 2 or 3 wafts of smoke or so.
you're complaining setting off car alarms? That's the fun part in having an exhaust, even if it's quieter you'll still set off car alarms, but judging from the list everything looks fine to me.
i open downpiped my car one time just for that purpose....went into a parking garage and reved....set off like 6 of em. it was hilarious
you scratch my ride IMA EAT YO CHILDREN
yea thats the fun part. my bro has an axle back exhaust on his talon and still sets off alarms lol and his exhaust sounds completely stock. Either keep it or go stock! J-bodies always are going to be noticeable with exhaust. I had just a muffler tip on my old 2.2 and it was loud. if u realy want quiet throw another resonator on there....
I set them off once in a while but i can't be of much help to you 'cause i like loud exhausts! it's gotta make ya laugh when it happens! good luck w/any changes you do make.
i love setting them off it makes me smile null

setting off alarms is half the fun. like with my car alarm. i can park in a lot of the local wal mart. pretend to be on the phone and watch my car and wait for someone to pass it and then set it off. its great.

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
alright, alright, u guys are great! setting off car alarms is fun!? thats hilarious!! I gotta admit though, i laugh every now and then when it happpens too, like just today i was parallel parking and I mustve put it in reverse like 2 times and the car behind me had a fit!!! kept chirpin like a endangered bird in a zoo!!!
Aight, so which resonator is quieter? A true resonator where its open pipe or a glasspack where its just a long muffler with fiberglass?
Also, anybody have to deal with a noisy catalytic converter? like its gargling, or raspy maybe? Its not damaged, meaning the inside is still intact ( not rattling around inside), just loud. I mean the cat shouldnt be making any noise right?
ok so im lookin at a longer resonator, glasspack in this case, thanx madjack (OHV sedan myself!
ok on to the catalytic converter, anybody have problems with this type?
Magnaflow Hi Flow Universal Catalytic Converter 91005
I mean the noise is really annoying! any ideas what it could be!?
If i'm not mistaken i believe that the longer the resonator the lower tone sound you'll get from your exhaust
i added a resonator to my exhaust b/c i thought it was too high pitched and i love the sound now!
i have 2.25 on my Z and a flowmaster muffler and its pretty quiet, just a low growl not raspy or anything but i still set off alarms just because of the growl it puts out but resonator is what you will have to go with if you wanna drop the decibles

Starting soon, all exhausts must be welded completely. Or else it wont pass inspection

i set a alarm off twice today , i love it
Bah. Inspections are overrated...
There's one parking garage here in Seattle that I love driving through. On average 10-12 cars have the alarm a-chirpin.
SeaTac Airport as well. Good times, good times

X2
The not fun part about it is setting off the berries and cherries

You must have a different Flowmaster series than I had. The car was quieter sounding when I pulled it off lol.
I've never heard of this "part throttle" before. Does it just bolt on?
