2.3 95 and older OBD1, 96 OBD1.5/2 97-99 OBD2, 00-02 OBD2. 00-02
Wrong / right will run on OBD 2, but would be a PAIN IN THE ASS, also is not EPA legal.

Order 11516479 self taping screw for Camshaft Position Sensor. For 2nd design, see 12465154.
You can use either version 1a, 1b, or two in your car with little modification. Just use the sensors from your model year.
Also use your injectors intake manifold and header. Also the older style starter will be fine on the newer motor or vis versa.

96 LD9 motors and wiring is just @!#$ up, stay away from this year. Also had different oil passages, and water-pump problems. GM doesn't even offer 96 motors anymore.

97-98 had EGR valves
some 99 had egr some didn't.
00-02 did have egr at all.
Also 99 had a better intake manifold. It doesn't have the flange on the inside plenum like all the other years.
Also 99 to 02 had smaller starter , and higher compression due to flat top pistons, even though some 99-02 have the older dish style pistons.
96-98/99 had low impedance injectors.
99-02 have high impedance injectors.
Also 96, 97-98, and 99-02 had different head casting numbers. I do not know if anyone figured out why this is.

I think that would cover 95% of everything.

Opps forgot about o2 sensors.
96-98/99 had one wire front O2 sensors.
00-02 had more than one wire. "heated O2 sensor"

You can run a 2.3 with almost no modification on a 2.4 ecm and vice versa but you don't have the knowledge to do it.
